Five of the six members were present to establish a quorum. Also attending the meeting were shelter volunteers Tara DeVeau, Connie DeVeau, Suzanne Berry, Dr. Denise Trapani and Dick Davenport. The Committee reviewed the minutes of the previous meeting and approved them. • A total of $33,705.61 is now in the AWC account; $31,183.71 is for the new shelter. • Geanine Parks reported that $206 was raised from six cans at Mansfield businesses in less than one month. This money is for maintenance and upkeep at the shelter and replacement cans are needed — tall, thin containers with removable lids. • Adding additional exterior fenced -in cages to help with the overflow of dogs was again discussed — Matt will advise the Chief of the AWC's concern and obtain cost estimates. • Turning an unused room into a feline housing area complete with a quarantine area was again discussed. The need for this move was highlighted recently when a cat tested positive for both Fely and Fiv — and could have infected all of the other cats. The infected cat was quickly euthanized. The committee also wants approval to construct a "kitty condo" which will house several selected cats in one large cage. This action was proposed to Chief O'Neill who wanted to get Dr. Sohn's opinion before proceeding. The proposed late September Family Pet Day was postponed until next Spring. • Other items discussed: regional shelter proposal, non - profit status for donations, thank -you letters for donations, lawn mowing around outside cages, and re- election of officers. We set 9/26/96, at 7:30 p.m. (Town Hall) as the next Committee meeting. R14-110164 spectfully submitted, Matt Miller Chairman, Animal Welfare Committee cc: Committee Members Asst.
