The Animal Welfare Committee met April 24 at the Town Hall. Five members were present to
establish a quorum. Also attending the meeting was local Boy Scout Shawn McNamee.
The Committee reviewed the minutes of the previous meeting and approved them.
Balances for the AWC financial account were presented: spay- neuter $409; general
$8,510.36; new shelter $37,647.94. The total balance is $46,567.30. There are no
outstanding invoices for medical care.
• Results from the May 3 "Adopt- a -Thon" were discussed in detail. An additional $114 was
added to the income for the event, bringing the net income to $1,018.65. The Committee
reviewed the activities from the event and discussed plans to make it better next year.
• The Chairman will write thank -you letters to all Mansfield businesses who donated items to
the event and will prepare a note for area newspapers to thank everyone.
• One dog with medical problems was euthanized as discussed at the previous meeting.
• Local Boy Scout Shawn McNamee suggested several projects that he could do at the
Animal Shelter to help earn his Eagle status. He will develop a work detail and the Scouts
will install a barrier under the fence at the outside run to keep dogs from digging under the
fence and escaping. This was agreed upon and accepted by the AWC.
We set June 19, at 7;30 p.m. at the Town Hall as the next Committee meeting.
