Spay Waggin Update: The spay wagon is due February 28th. Hull is planning to
provide 5 puppies and 2 cats. Spay and neuter money is to be used to pay for the Spay
Waggin
Animal Shelter Building Project: Matt discussed that now is a time to determine
where we want to go with the shelter. The committee needs to determine where point B
is before we can attempt to get from point A to point B. The project needs to develop a
plan and start lining up commitments.
• Mansfield's shelter fits in the Meddle's fund profile and we need to examine the
possibility of starting an area coalition. We can provide a host organization and
through the organization provide support.
Guests at the meeting included Jeremy Adelman, Yvonne Nelra- Perez, and Tatiana
Winger, members of the MBA program at Brandeis University. They are working on
a program on strategic planning and are going to work on the new shelter project
with Matt. They will help with needs assessment and help with developing a plan.
The committee also feels that it is a good idea to have an external organization look
at how we do things.
ShelterNolunteer Issues:
• There is anew volunteer, a weekend floater who will cover 1 shift a weekend
• Tim is working on the software
• Issue with Foxboro ACO having different standards for adoption than Mansfield
shelter. Mansfield was housing a dog for Foxboro and was unable to adopt the dog
out due to differing criteria used by Foxboro
• Jeff will work out a consistent policy on adoptions when Mansfield houses animals
for other towns.
Old Business
• Microchip reader works. The Spay Waggin is microchipping Dr. Trappani is not
currently doing microchipping.
• Spay /Neuter- Richard's goal is to spay /neuter 100% of animals prior to adoption and
suggested avenues such as low cost coupons that should be looked into to reach
this goal.
• Web -Site it was commented on how good and professional the web -site looks. it
was suggested that more people be instructed on how to update the site to relieve
the some of the burden from Diane.
• Town By -Laws: Need to build a committee and revise. Old language needs to be
revisited. Look to putting committee together and revising Chapter 8 by the Fall
Town Meeting.
New Business
• New England Federation of Humane Societies Conference April 2 -4, 2001, Newport
RI- there are portions that committee members may want to attend.
• Richard provided articles for the Tufts Center for Animals & Public Policies- Scales
for assessing body condition information on hoarding animals
• Vaccination Clinic- It was decide that the committee should have a vaccination clinic
for the town. Richard has an organization that will run the clinic provide publicity and
provide a percentage of the proceeds to the shelter. The committee decided to
approach area veterinarians to determine if they would be interested to participating
in the event. The committee will attempt to get commitments as soon as possible.
• Jeff brought up the fact that April 7, there is a statewide campaign on vaccinations.
9:13 PM Motion to adjourn. The motion was seconded and passed 5 -0.
