A motion was made to accept the minutes of the last meeting. Motion passed 5 - 0
Financial Report: The Mansfield Animal Shelter reports the following balances
Fines and Boarding: $4138.00
Spay and Neuter: $1102.00
General Funds $1137.86
Total $6377.86
Financial Report MSF: A financial report was not available
Spay Waggin Update: Spay Waggin coming November 29. This visit will be for all
previously adopted animals. Owners of adopted animals that were adopted before they
were spayed or neutered were contacted to come in. In November and December there
will be approximately 30 kittens that will be of age to be neutered that have been
adopted out.
It is a much more complicated process to spay /neuter animals that have been adopted,
more paperwork, making sure the animals are returned to the proper carrier that they
came in, coordinating the animals coming in.
Volunteer Activities /Issues:
• Need to find volunteers to work adoptions at the South Attleboro Petco. We would
like to have a person there twice a month for four hours (11 -3) on a Saturday.
Advertising, Publicity and Public Education
• The Mansfield Christmas parade, November 25. Individuals marching will meet at
the High School parking lot at 1:45 PM.
Animal Health and Welfare
• 3`d culture due December 3. By December 10 the shelter should have an answer for
the 2nd negative on ringworm testing. Cats will be medicated for ringworm until we
receive 2 negative cultures.
• The cat room needs to be bleached consistently; the volunteers have done a good
job and put a lot of effort into this.
Dr Trappani has informed some volunteers and Jeff, that she is taking a hiatus from
being the shelter vet. The workload her practice has become very heavy and she
was doing a great amount of work. The committee understands her situation and
commends all she has done for the shelter and her efforts will be sorely missed.
Betsy will get together a list of veterinarian qualifications for Richard to use when
speaking with potential vets.
Betsy took Sadie to Tufts where it was determined that she has spinal and rib
fractures. Her mobility will improve and bracing will not help. She is eating and
drinking fine and taking short walks.
Old Business:
• Electric department has corrected the lighting problem outside the shelter. They
have a light on the gate at the end of the lane now and one that shines on the cat
room door. The committee thanks Jack and the Electric Department for helping out.
• Bear is doing well with his training sessions. Stacey and Melissa are coming in to
work with him.
New Business:
• The vice - chairman position on the board is open. Position is to concentrate primarily
on fundraising, chapter 8 revisions and running the meeting when the chairman is
not available.
• Wendy Pruell a candidate for the committee was present as a guest.
Adjourn: At 9:35 P.M. a motion was made to adjourn the motion passed. The next
meeting is set for Thursday December 20, at 7:30 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Kevin Moran
Secretary, Animal Welfare Committee.
