ACO Report
House Fire Cats —
Jeff reported that most of the cats rescued from the Mansfield house fire have medical issues
requiring medication, and most have dental problems. Even if MSF pays for medical exams and
treatment while the cats are at the shelter, he expects that the owner will have difficulty treating
the cats consistently when they are returned to her.
Lori offered to help the owner medicate the cats after they are returned to her, and Jeff cited
another instance when volunteers helped an owner maintain a large number of cats in a home.
For economy and convenience, Ana will try to get a vet to come to the shelter to examine all of
the cats, and to prescribe treatment. She suggested getting the antibiotic shot ($13) for each cat
rather than having an array of medicines that have to be administered daily to each cat.
Jeff will try to isolate the sickest cats by putting them in the infirmary, and moving Holmes back
to the quarantine room.
Sharon brought lysine to the shelter to boost the immunity of the house fire cats, and to give
prophylactically to our shelter cats. Jeff will wait until the house fire cats have been examined
before giving them lysine.
