Approve Minutes Motion: To approve minutes from June 19, 2014. Passes. Shelter Maintenance • A service man will look at the loose belt on the clothes dryer on Monday. Dryer is still under warranty. • Jeff will notify Gary of two repairs needed: cat step pulled out of rear cattery wall, white cat stand in large playroom is coming loose at top screw. Fostered Animals • Eddy is doing well in his foster home, and he lost two pounds. • Madeline and Whoopie Pie will go for first vaccinations on Monday, and come to the shelter a couple of days afterwards. Veterinary • Volunteers have conunented that there is sometimes excessive urine in Sherry's litter box. Sharon suggested observing a little longer. A.C.O. Report • Both Jada and Tuffy have shown some aggression. Jada's aggression is specifically towards new dogs. Scarlett doesn't seem to like other dogs much, either. Jeff advised caution. Page I of 2 Jeff presented suggestions for discussion, about ways to improve dog care procedures for better safety for dogs and volunteers. The first three suggestions were agreed upon, and will go into effect inunediately. • Having pre -shift briefings for volunteers. • Taking dogs out for walks through the outside pen kennel door, and returning them by the front or back kennel doors. • When multiple dogs are out for walks at once, walk them to opposite ends of the road, or on opposite sides of the road. • Installing locks on kennel and cattery doors so that visitors, and volunteers starting their shift, could not walk-in unless admitted. • Installing curtains on some of the kennels to block dogs' views. • Advising volunteers not to sit in cages with dogs. • Create levels of volunteers, with responsibilities matching theirabilityand experience. Water bucket hooks are currently being used to insure kennel cages are locked, since humidity makes latches stick, and sometimes doors aren't really latched shut. After Bristol ate a toy, A.W.0 decided to advise volunteers that toys should be removed from kennels at the end of each shift. Volunteers should monitor the number of toys put in cages, and retrieve the same number of toys at the end of the shift. Kong toys are exempt. Miscellaneous • Buell will need to go to a groomer after he is vaccinated. Sharon can arrange transportation, or the approved applicant can take him, with M.S.F. paying. • Lori will investigate finding a barn for Kristy and /or Oxy. Sharon also has a barn available. We will monitor Oxy for a while to see if her litter box aversion continues. Adjournment Motion: To adjourn. Passes Adjourned: 8:55 p.m. Signature of Clerk Date Page 2 of 2
