(Powers -- Cormier; all in favor) VOTED REPORT ON MEETING WITH LEONARD FLYNN, CHAIRMAN CAULDWELL, PETER DETROLIO, SELECTMEN PASQUALE AND ROYLE, STATE REP. HYLAND, SENATOR KEATING, AND REPS. OF MASS. HIGHWAY DEPT. Highway Dept. representatives had prepared nothing. Many questions were asked and the history of the land in question was reviewed. Mr. Flynn's stated clearly that the NRT and Conservation Commission want the land back., reminded the state once again of its Promise to return the land, and indicated that NRT has a plan for the land. A Highway Dept. representative told town representatives "You're going to get the land back ". Chairman Cauldwell remains skeptical. Rep. Hyland and Sen. Keating will compose a letter to Highway Dept. requesting a meeting with the highway commissioner to get the process underway. Chairman Cauldwell indicated his willingness and intent to be a part of the process to whatever extent necessary. Mention was made by state officials that they may need the 10 acres in question for improving the road; however, at the recent hearing before the Conservation Commission on roadway improvements the state maintained, in response to questioning by citizens, that no plans were on the books for any additional improvements. Daybank has hired a lobbyist to represent them on behalf of their land interests. Representatives attending the meeting agreed that a letter - writing campaign from Mansfield residents would be extremely valuable. MOTION: To back the four "owners unknown" articles before Town Meeting which provide for taking land by eminent domain. (Powers - Smith; all in favor) VOTED MANSFIELD LITTLE LEAGUE. Little League has requested permission to use an herbicide, Round -up, next to the fences at the fields on Otis Street. Round -up, according to Mr. Jameson, breaks down after one year and must be applied by a licensed applicator who works for the town by pressurized Pump canister. It stays where it's applied, even if it rains the next day. It is applied after grass is established, only once per season. They have also requested permission to install poured concrete pads under bleachers, eliminating need for herbicides there, and to construct batting cages.
