TCAT, annual training at the American Cancer Society , Framingham. Legislators have been
contacted to ask for support to continue tobacco funding with no cuts. FDA regs will be in
effect in August and will be stiff with no local enforcement. House Bill 1313 pertains to
restaurants, stripping Boards of Health of their authority to regulation ETS (Environmental
Tobacco Smoke) issues in public places. Municipal government will enforce. Mrs. Doucette
showed two examples of signage that Sharon and Norton use. She asked Mansfield to consider
approval of the use and design. Atty. Mark Boutin sent example of non - criminal disposition. He
will review regs with next two weeks. Signage checks are being done, but no compliance since
regs have not yet been reviewed. "We Card" kit will be distributed to retailers if they wish.
Tobacco Control is managing the sale of daffodils for the American Cancer Society. NMS will
be official name of group. Mrs. Doucette gave everyone copies of material to backup each
segment of her report.
Should NMS welcome another town? Raynham has shown an interest in past. Replacing
Easton will help funding for next fiscal year. Easton petitioned SERSG to start a tobacco control
coalition. Funding will not be extended to October 1997 as earlier reported. NMS will actually
get an extension of money until the next budget is voted. Sarah Sabourin, State Tobacco Control
Coordinator, SE Mass., asked her communities to send her a list of all landowners of small
businesses. The State is considering a policy that all landowner who rent to businesses require
