Hazardous Waste Regulations. During the inspection they noted
the company desired to acquire final authorization to operate
as a treatment /storage/disposal facility. The DME advised them of
the requirements for a TSD facility. It was the consensus of the
Board to have the Health Agent contact DEQF to receive more information
on exactly what a TSD facility is; just for their by; products or
can others dump there.
Copy of letter dated February 17, 1983 was received from Thermo Electron,
E.J. Flynn Engineers to Joan Chlden, General Manager, Sheraton - Mansfield
Inn regarding water supply -water treatment system for Sheraton Mansfield.
Reference was made with a copy enclosed of their letter of December 1, 1982.
regarding a corrosion control pilot program being conducted by the Mansfield
Water Department. They were advised by the Superintendent of the Mansfield
lister Department the early results indicated that the lime treatment
would be too costly and inconvenient and that silicates would probably be
chosen for permanent use. The use of silicates by the Water Department
would not affect the benefits to be derived from treating with potassium
hydroxide at the Sheraton - Mansfield. They also advised, that Mr. Morrison
had further advised that the recent results of siloato treatment have
not been good and that the Town of Mansfield is not leaning toward the
use of lime on a permanent basis. Permanent facilities could be in
,operation in Approximately 9 months. Lime treatment by the Town at all of
its groundwater sources would accomplish the same purpose as adding
potassium hydroxide at the Sheraton - Mansfield and the treatment facilities
under construction would become redundant. Several questions were raised
by the Board concerning this letter.; iet why treating with potassium
and why were they advised in this manner when they had originally requested
the information several weeks ago from the Board of Selectmen.
Motion: To send a letter to the Board of Selectmen stating that the Board
would like to know why they have to be informed of tentative results of
the pilot program through a letter from Thermo Elbotron for one of the
largest water users in Mansfield.
