5. HEALTH AGENT'S REPORT
- Clerk Rosenberg requested a status, from Health Agent Leite, of closure of
the landfill.
Health Agent responded that Camp, Dresser & McKee will be writing the proposed
contract for closure and capping of landfill.
Chairman Tartufo requested that the Board of Health should review this
proposal before it is approved.
Health Agent Leite explained that in back of the Dunn's home, where leachate
is broken out, it has run into the wetland and it travels around landfill
to the other side, along the wetland. The concentrations are very high right
where the leachate first hits the wetland, and they drop dramatically as it
gets through the wetland, which is all the heavy metals falling out and the
vegetation taking up a lot of the contaminents. The iron counts are still
very high. The surface of deep wells have been.monitored, which have not
changed drastically. Camp, Dresser & McKee will try and put patches on the
breakout area's, all of that one elevation.

Chairman Tartufo commented that Camp, Dresser & McKee made their presentation
to the Board of Selectmen on June 17th. Testing was done, through the brook,
swamp, etc., and samples show that leachate is dissipating, with smaller
quantities as it gets further down to water.
- Health Agent Leite requested clarification on new $50.00 fee for approval of
septic plans (over and above the $100.00 fee for on -site sewerage testing).
Chairman Tartufo responded that it takes effect when regulation was adopted
(May 7, 1987), and applies to plans being submitted after regulation was
adopted by the Board.
- Health Agent informed the Board he will be attending a food training session
on June 24th, 25th and 26th. Health Agent Leite was one of 50 people chosen
by the State.
- Health Agent joined the Bristol County Waste Disposal Committee.
Member Fontanini requested literature from Health Agent; he may attend up-
coming meeting.
6. Meeting adjourned at 9:30 p.m.
