MINUTES OF MEETING
( SEPTEMBER 24, 1984
PRESENT: Chairman Wills; Selectmen D'Onofrio, McNair, Levine; Town Manager,
Fire Chief, Town Accountant; Demers Associates
The meeting was called to order at 3:30 P.M. The Board discussed various op-
tions for solving the problem of the Mansfield fire apparatus.
* MOTION: To recommend the repair of all three vehicles.
D'Onofrio /McNair
It was noted that one company had submitted a bid for repair of all
three vehicles for approximately $138,000; however, in their speci-
fications they did not solve all of the problems that Demers Associ-
ates had identified in their review of the equipment. There would
still be a question of whether all vehicles could be repaired and
certified.
All opposed; not voted.
* MOTION: To purchase one commercial pumper and repair Engines 2 & 3.
D'Onofrio /McNair
It was noted that this option would still have the problem of having
Engine #2 certified. The estimated cost of this option is $245,000.
All opposed; not voted.
* MOTION: To purchase three commercial pumpers, two heavy weight and one stand-
ard commercial, in accordance with Option 3 of the Town Manager's
report. D'Onofrio /McNair
The cost of this option would be $329,000
All opposed; not voted.
Selectman Dunn arrived at this point.
* MOTION: To purchase one custom pumper and one commercial pumper, and repair the
Seagrave (Engine 3).
D'Onofrio /McNair
Under this option, one custom pumper would be placed in the central
station, the commercial would be placed at West Mansfield, and the
Seagrave would be repaired. Concern was expressed for a commercial
pumper fitting into the West Mansfield station. Subsequent to the
action on this motion, the Fire Chief advised that a commercial pumper
would fit into the West Mansfield station provided that the chimney
was relocated. Demers advised that two front -line custom pumpers
should be the option that the Town goes with.
