Building Inspector Joseph Chalifoux, Gemana A. Giordani, Shoppers Guide,
and his contractor present at the meeting, The Building Inspector advised
that he based his complaints on the Building Code, Sections 8, 80 19, 10' and
12 and Section 123, He reviewed what lead up to the complaint, advising the
owner to stop work on the marquee - could not have anything like this over
the sidewalk. Did allow him to continue work on the inside of the building,
but told him to get the necessary permit and submit plans, which he had not
done, The Town Manager advised that he had gone up there. Discovered the
building is built right on the line, and the structure they have put up,
the water would fall on the middle of the sidewalk, Recommended the marquee
should come off the building. Have problems all along Main Street, but it
has been like this for some time. Eventually should eliminate all of this
type of construction for the safety of the public. Could not understand
why an owner of building would do this type of thing without a permit. It
is a strict violation of the Building Code as it remains right now.
Mr. Giordani advised that he had applied for an application for a permit on
January 12 and produced the application, building application and check which
he had. He was told to file for a permit for a sign structure and thought
this was submitted to the Board last Wednesday night,
The Building Inspector gave permission to finish the work inside of the
building, and because of.a rain storm did do some work on the marquee so
that it would not rain in and spoil the work done inside. Met with the
Building Inspector and Fire Chief and discussed types of systems for a fire
prevention system. At that time he stated that he was not under the im-
pression that the marquee was a problem, just a decorative piece.
The Building Inspector advised that Mr. Giordani has been cooperative in
every respect, but should have submitted plans and specs prior to his doing
the work. Discussion regarding s:the marquee, and how to drain the water so
that it would not go on the sidewalk. The Board:agreed to take the matter
under advisement, and to have the Building Inspector and Mr. Giordani get
together, and report back to the Board next week.
Upon a motion by Selectman Saunders, seconded by Selectman Clemmey it was
voted to go into executive session.
The regular meeting adjourned at 9:00 P.M.
