The Chairman inquired if he had any problems, and the Chief advised that he had no problems unless the Board has. Things are going smoothly, finished painting both stations on the inside. The Board discussed fire alarm maintenance and was advised that most of the maintenance is done on weekends. Cannot have men out during the day, have a lot of work to do. There is a lot of trimming to be done, and old wire to be replaced, and no money has been appropriated. The Department has no bucket truck, have to use the aerial ladder for fire alarm work. The biggest problem now is trimming, have shorts in our lines due to branches on the wires. The town is putting in higher poles, have to change our wires, have new extensions, C.C. & F. uses special wire, should have a bucket truck. After further discussion, the Chairman requested that the Chief come up with some sort of suggestions as to how we can improve the ser- vice. If the need was shown could convince the public so that we could acquire some of these things like the bucket truck, etc. Representative Ames and Senator Quinlan at the meeting to discuss the proposed hockey rink. Representative Ames spoke first about the redistricting. There is going to be a hearing in about two weeks when the proposal is submitted to the Election Laws. Committee. Mansfield would be split up in two oistricts. One third of Mansfield would be in Representative Ames' district with Norton and Easton, the rest of the town would be in a new district, namely; with'rplainville, Wrentham and a precinct of Foxboro. The Chairman questioned what recourse the town would have to better this redistricting, and Representative Ames advised a group could go to the hearing and state its feelings that the town should not be divided. Senator Quinlan advised that the Senate will be redistricted, but the towns will not be divided up. Do not have to do it. Would keep under the present plan, would have both Easton and Mansfield, but would lose North Attleboro and pick up Westwood. Discussed the request of the Board to file a late filed bill for the hockey rink through D.N.R. Advised that this bill has no chance of passing, certain kinds of bills go through. Should bring about a tremendous amount of public interest, not the Board alone, but in Foxboro and Canton a group formed a rink committee, spoke to various schools, church groups and any other group they could address, worked for the support of all local organizations, this helped to bring a hockey rink to these towns. Should meet with the Governor, and Arthur Brownell of D.N.R. Willing to help, up to the Board to decide if you want us to work with you•if the program is going to continue at a State level. Selectman Colella advised that the Board would like to see a rink in Mansfield. There is a desire and interest in it, and we would like to go through D.N.R. A group of businessmen from North I•iain Street met with the Board regarding the one side parking ban. Sent out 62 questionnaires, 28 were returned; 23 were in favor of one side parking; four for the "figure 8" pattermt and one would like to keep two -way traffic. Held a hearing and no one showed up, our basis for our decision to ban one -side parking for a trial period ;'teas from. the, :questzonnaires.
