Present: Commissioners DeLong and Colella; Light Director James Hall,
Officer Manager Geraldine Lemieux
Note: No quorum, workshop meeting held.
Mrs. Lemieux discussed the depreciation fund. It was recommended that
the amount be $83,871 for this account.
The June balance sheet was discussed. Mr. Hall pointed out that the
new account 183 ( "Preliminary Survey and Investigation Charges ") was
the amount assessed to the Mansfield Municipal Electric Department by
the Mass. Siting Council for planned construction. Another new account
pointed out was 165 -1 ( "Prepayment ") to pay partially for power costs
due one or two days after billing. Since the Town has to wait and pay
bills on a weekly warrant, this account allows MMWEC to be paid on time.
The electric heating rate for apartment complexes was discussed. In a
memo previously submitted to the Commissioners, Mr. Hall had pointed out
that a 10% hike in the rate would still result in a $21,000 loss to
the Department. Commissioner DeLong suggested that the Department of
Public Utilities be asked to allow the Town to "phase in" the increase
over 2 or 3 years. Light Department Director Hall will check with the
D.P.U. to see if this can be done.
Also discussed was the possibility of going to a small computer for the
electric billing. Mr. Hall reported that Southeastern Regional Techni-
cal School has some in -house computer time available, although they could
not provide the personnel.
MMwEC convention will be held on October 10 - 13.
