William Panos of the Norton Industrial Development Committee met with the
Selectmen to discuss the potential use of the Sewer Treatment Plant by
Norton's future indusrrial park. All the Selectman other than Selectman
DeLong agreed that it would be a goodwill gesture to let them in without a
charge until Norton is ready to join in the regional cost. Selectman DeLong
felt that they should pay their part of the capital cost or at least pay a
different rate because the taxpayers of Mansfield have had to pay their part
in this plant all along the line.
Mr. Panos stated that he has already spoke with Chad Maurer about this and
and indicated that the Selectmen probably don't have the authority to allow
Norton industry into the plant, 'but the people that do will naturally take
your recommendations strongly. We would like to get access at a point about
50 yards from the plant without going right into the plant. it was suggested
that Norton would pay a larger user fee to offset capital costs. Mr. Panos
states that a bill is now before the House Ways and Means Committee which has
passed the State Senate giving Norton permission to acquire some of the Dever
property for industrial development.
A motion to allow the Norton Industrial Commission to connect to the Mansfield
sewer system as long as the fee is adjusted properly and subject to final
