Monti Granit Co. and Morse & Beggs Monument Co. were present at the Selectmen's meeting along with other interested parties. After much discussion about the grade of granite to be used by each of the bidders a legal aspect was brought up by a Mr. Bennett, counsel representing Mr. Patriquin, whether the Board of Selectmen have the legal right to have put it out for bid in the beginning. It was noted that Mr. Patriquin entrusted the funds to the Town of Mansfield at the annual town meeting and it was just an accepted fact that the power to have?,bids put out would be the B6ard_of Selectmen. Stan Barnicoat of Barnicoat Monuments was present to give his unbiased opinion on the specifications and what he thought of the different grades of granite being used. Mr. Barnicoat felt that Rock of Ages would not use a BB Grade of granite unless they grade their granite differently than the Barre industry and feels they should find out how that grade their granite. Morse & Beggs have the BB Grade of Granite on their specifications and are the higher bidder. A. Monti Granite Co. is specifying Grade A and are the lower bidder. Town Counsel,-'.James Grady is to research the legal aspect further and report back to the board his findings.
