At 7:45 P.M. Ed Morrison met with the Board to discuss his petition against
noisome occupations or trades in agricultural zones, which he wanted the Board
to submit for the Special Town Meeting Warrant. He explained that the petition
would change the Zoning Bylaws to prohibit trades and occupations which may be
coincidential, noisome and offensive, such as slaughtering, rendering animal
matter, manufacturing fertilizers, soaps, piggeries, making of varnish, glue,
or any burning fluids. Mr. Morrison pointed out that these trades were listed
in the Mass. General Laws as noisome or offensive, and that residents wanted
such a change for their own protection. Mr. Morrison noted that he has talked
to the Planning Director, and that if the Board of Selectmen voted to insert
this as an article, then the Planning Board would have to .hold a public hear-
ing before Town Meeting. He also noted that he has the required 113 signatures
on the petition.
