Article 1 - is supported by both the Board of Selectmen and the Finance Committee also to be added is $1000. for an Assistant Treasurer. Article 2 - Selectman Avery noted that he is having a hard time wrestling with his conscience as to whether there is a need for the building at this time considering taxes and all. There is no question there is a viable need for the building and if the Fairfield building is lost then we will have an even deeper crunch . The need is there but is this the time to do it. Selectman Caponigro noted that he feels the same way and feels that it should' be put in as a Capitol Improvement for next year, he feels that they never really received the full information that they wanted. Selectman Mahana feels the same way but felt that there would be savings in floating a bond for both the middle school roof and this project. However, he would Still like to see some of the hardline figures, as far as what the cost savings would be in having the maintenance work done at the gargage vs. having the work done outside. Also the question of whether more people will have to be hired. It was unanimous with the Board of Selectmen and the FinCom to defer any action on Article 2 until the Annual Town Meeting. Chad Maurer's proposal was discussed, he proposed using $105,095. to reduce the tax rate, $500,000. to be placed in the stablilization fund and the remainder to pay for the middle school roof and the new DPW /Storage building. Joan Cutillo noted that she agrees with Chad's proposal, that it would be the best thing to do but a the Annual Town Meeting she did stand up and say she was against a rebate so she feels that she has a moral obligation to go along with the FinCom. Selectman Avery noted that the proposal is logical and hates to seelall the money go for reduction of taxes and is a firm believer of saving some money but has a commitment to the people since he was not in favor of the rebate he is in favor of the FinCom's recommendation. Selectman Mahana noted that as a sort of compromise, moved that $710,000. be slated to reduce the tax rate and $395,095 placed in the stabilization fund. This received no second.
