Chadwick Maurer, Jr. for 10 years service as Planning Director. Approved on a motion by Selectman Levine, seconded by Selectman Avery. VOTED: 4 -0. Chairman Mahana informed the Board that he called the State solid waste. Frye will be system contractor. Depending on financing method, cost can vary from $10 to $16 a ton for disposal of trash only, the $16 for private contractor. Hope to break ground within a year. Suggested a sample be taken of weight of normal trash pick -up. Ask Town Manager to spot check. Ted Volante, upon being recognized by Chairman, commented that the weight would vary depending on weather conditions and type of trash. Approximately 60 cu. yards per day is brought in by present contractor, which is approx. 20 tons per day or 100 tons per week. There will be an increase in the amount when landfill is closed. Chairman Mahana feels alternatives for a new site probably will not receive approval. We might be able to negotiate with Clean Communities who will make available for WRRC Towns an interim dumping site if State approves funds for provision of landfill site. Selectman Avery suggests all material be turned over to Town Manager. Chairman Mahana noted he met Monday morning with a supplier of Christmas Tree lights. After negotiating, he gave us a price of $11 per string for 344 strings of 25 bulbs per.. string, 600 bulbs at $23 per 100 for spares, four used kissing rings at $20 each for a total of $4,002. t Chairman Mahana asked JayCee's if someone could go to North & South Commons to spot trees to determine whether both Commons or only one could be done. Would be necessary to go out to bid for items over $2,000. Chairman Mahana suggests giving info to Town Manager to advertise for bids. Ted Volante of JayCee's offered to repair used Christmas tree decorations stored by Electric Department. He was instructed to see J. Hall. Chairman Mahana reported he spoke with M+WEC with regards to the feasibility of a water wheel on Rumford River. As a member, we will receive study information without charge. Chairman Mahana reported that our GATRA representative told us that GATRA voted to give MBTA 60 days to terminate rail service. Will try to negotiate contract to provide service at peak times, and also for bus service into Boston. Mansfield representative regretfully voted to go along with vote as cost to Mansfield was $300,000 or $400,009 per year. We have 60 days from today to find out whether we can renegotiate. Selectman Avery suggests that new Board members familiarize themselves with the Town balance sheet. JayCee's would like Board of Selectmen to present for them a Certificate of f Appreciation to Vim. Metropulos upon his departure as Town Manager. Certificate was left with the Board. There being no further business, a motion to adjourn was made by Selectman Avery, seconded by Selectman Levine.
