BOARD OF SELECTMEN MINUTES OF THE MEETING JUNE 11, 1980 Meeting was opened for Correspondence review by Clerk Avery, with Selectmen DeLong and May present at 7:14 p.m. Selectmen Levine and Chairman Mahana arrived at 7:30 p.m. At 7:30 P.M. Chairman Mahana convened the meeting. Paul Boyden addressed the Board for the Conservation Commission regarding Mill Pond. He stated that it was the Town and ConCom's intent with Mill Pond to do some restoration work. However, with two new wells going in, if de- watering method were used to dredge, there could be some adverse effect on the new wells. The ConCom would like to have a hydrological study done to find out whether there would be any impact by digging the pond in this manner. Mr. Boyden noted there were two good benefits to the Town by digging Mill Pond which are the surplus materials derived and that the Town would be impounding millions of gallons of water with little effort. After a brief discussion of the dredging methods, Selectman Avery asked Mr. Boyden how he went along with Margot Jellinek on dredging. Mr. Boyden stated that the letter the Board received from Margot last week was in error. She meant the pond could not be raised higher than the two foot established height, but it could be dug deeper. Chairman Mahana asked if the ConCom would write their long rang goals for the hydrological study and if they could include plans for a reservoir? Bob Morrison, plater Supervisor, feels Whitman & Howard should have some input. Selectman Avery moved to ask Town Planner in conjunction with Bob Morrison and a member of the Conservation Commission to pursue the matter of what impact dredging might have on wells through Whitman & Howard. Motion seconded by Selectman May. * VOTED: 5 -0. At this point Bob Morrison noted the pumping rate for the last three days: Sunday, 2.1 MG; Monday, 2.3MG; Tuesday, 2.5 MG. He noted the wells are being rested from two to five hours daily. Foolish Hill is pretty well up to capacity. Selectman Avery commented that it is important to let the public know that even with all the rain we have been receiving, the water ban is necessary for conservation. Correspondence Letter from Whitman and Howard on faulty valves, and maintenance program. Noted improvements could be scheduled over a four to six year period. Suggested initially establishing fund of $25,000 to cover emergencies. Chairman Mahana reminded Bob Morrison to be sure when preparing budget for next year that some appropriation be made for repairs. Robert DeLong suggested that the water rates be checked to see if they would still be correct if this maintenance program were implemented. Chairman Mahana suggested Tom Bonome contact Whitman & Howard on this and if rates will change to get new rate structure before July 1. Selectman May suggested that Bob Morrison get the 1973 Whitman & Howard report noted in their letter of June 10.
