( MINUTES OF MEETING
JANUARY 28, 1985
COMPUTER WORKSHOP
PRESENT: Chairman Wills, Commissioners McNair, Levine, D'Onofrio. J.Dunn not
Light Manager John Larch, Office Manager Allan Jones. present tonight.
Board members discussed justification of new computer system for the
Electric Department, costs for the present computer in use and then
went through the analysis of proposals prepared by Mr. Jones.
It was recommended that they go with the software proposal from
Digital Systems Inc. which operates on DEC hardware. It is a portable
system which could be moved from the Town Hall to the Light Plant and
it can also be linked to the NCR at the Town Hall.
The main issue raised was how the Electric Department would pay for
the computer. It was suggested they reduce the payment in lieu of
taxes. Mr. Larch will discuss the payment process with Ron Moilenan.
It was a consensus of the Board that they were going to replace the
Data General system. It was also a 4 -0 consensus of the Board that
DSI was the best system.
This system could also do water and sewer billing. It was also
suggested that we do surrounding towns for their water and sewer
billing.as this would generate some income. It was noted that hand
held meters would keep track of both water and electric readings.
Last item discussed was the payment in lieu of taxes which will be
discussed later. Board will vote on the computer at their next
meeting.
