MONITOR WELL SYSTEM
In general, monitor well establishment is most useful.
Monitor wells provide the means to have access to the
environmental condition of a site during and after
construction. They provide a means to alert the concerned
individuals to possible problems with contaminants and
pollutants approaching the resource areas. Among
environmentalists, such monitor well usage is affectionately
termed D.E.W. systems for Distant Early Warning systems.
Location
E.R.C. proposes the placement of a monitor well at the 100'
buffer (just inside the wildlife shrub barrier).
Material
The monitoring wells shall be fabricated of polyethylene
(rigid), Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), or rubber - stryene (RS).
Pipes should be sized at two inches (2") internal diameter.
E.R.C. recommends excavated installation with 15' monitors
wells. A 51 well point section is recommended and may be
used by using perforated pipe for that section wrapped with
ordinary plastic screening secured by fiberglass strapping.
Well cap to be secured.
Whenever possible, each monitoring site shall consist of
_( dual well installations about four feet apart. one well will
extend to bedrock or refusal with intention of reaching the
bottom of the aquifer, this being the low well. The second
well, the high well, will be placed in the top segment of
the aquifer or in the range of directing percolating
(infiltrating) water.
Monitoring
Monitoring is of dual nature. A/hydraulic - to record water
table fluctuations and ground flow; and B /leachate factors -
to test various pollutant parameters by periodic sampling.
The pollutant factors to be tested as listed as below as
appropiate for protection of the wetlands, water supplies,
groundwater, and environment as applicable to this
particular site.
Pollutant parameters
Expected to be tested periodically are:
T.YN, Total Phosphate, Iron, Lead, Manganese, Zinc, Oil and
Grease, Total solids, B.O.D., Sodium
Testing schedule is expected to be on a routine six -month
period with the following exceptions.
