Topics of Discussion:
FY12 Budget
The Committee Chairman stated he is trying to maintain the current staffing level of the town. The town
currently has a FY12 deficit of $700,000. During recent budget meetings it was thought the town was
working with a FYI2 deficit of approximately $200,000. Some charges were uncovered during the past
week that was unkno~n previously, including the penalties for the last two years for underperforming
concerning the net school spending. The Chairnlan stated that Chapter 70 funding is expected to go
down over the next five years due to student head count declining.
The FY12 budget is expected to be voted on by the Finance Committee during the 17 March 2011
meeting.
The purchase of the second town ambulance during FY12 was discussed. The bid came back very
favorably. Depending on the results of the vote during the town meeting in May, the ambulance would
be ordered in July with delivery in the fall. It should be noted that the ambulance service is a revenue
generator for the town and would far exceed tlle expense of the cost to purchase. This would put allow
both ambulances to be replaced on a rotational basis beginning FYl5 and every two years thereafter.
There were several exchanges between Mr. Lazzara, Mr. Goldberg and Gary Babin from the town
Light Department. It was yet to be determined if the planned substation would be purchased via cash,
bond or a combination. There were still questions that needed to be addressed before the Light Dept.
budget could be voted on by the Finance Committee. Mr. Lazzara made a motion to wait on approving
the capital and operational budget of the Light Dept. budget. The motion was approved, 5-0.
Southeastern Regional Budget Presentation
The school representatives, Mark Morris presented the Mansfield portion of the FY12 Regional budget.
The school proposed a budget for Mansfield during FY12 would be $391,216. The Finance Committee
forecasted a budget of approximately $398,000. There are 43 students enrolled at 3.2% over the overall
-,-r
student membership. Motion was made to approve the regional budget in the amount of$391,2l6.
Motion approved 5-0.
