(Aptowitz/Kozlowski) 4:0:1 (Annino abstain) Fleet vehicle maintenance discussion Mr. Azinheira recapped the conversation of a previous meeting and reiterated that the town mechanics do a quality job for less than comparable quick service operations. If the town was to bring the vehicles to a quick change facility, they would not be using the same quality fluid and parts for their standard prices. Also if the vehicle needed other parts the town would have to pay their price or make another trip with the vehicle to the highway garage. Our mechanics spend an average of one hour with each vehicle because most of the time they need to perform other maintenance on the vehicle while it is there. Board af Selectmen Minutes of September 22, 2010 After a brief discussion Selectman Dentino still did not believe that providing this service was cheaper or better for the town. While agreeing with Selectman Dentino that health insurance and benefits are an issue, Selectman Aptowitz stated that it is important to the DPW and the town fleet, especially in the winter, to have mechanics on hand. Mr. Azinheira and Mr. Ross have implemented a system to track maintenance work at the garage and will report back to the Board of Selectmen with the results. Mr. Azinheira stated they continually review ways to streamline operations and cut costs and will carryon in that direction. After a brief discussion about the various types of cars that the town uses the conversation concluded. Use of Mansfield Green In 2003, the Town of Mansfield implemented a $10 sticker fee for the Mansfield Green, certain item stickers, as well as strictly enforcing the requirement that residents have stickers on the vehicle.
