The Animal Welfare Committee met June 26 at the Town Hall. Five members were present to establish a quorum.
Also attending the meeting were Town Manager John D'Agostino, volunteer vet Dr. Denise Trapani, and volunteers
Becky and Scoff Milhouse, Betsy and Dean Wagner, and Rose Wool.
Although a financial report was not presented, Petco donated $1,128.60. The can donations totaled $231.72 for the
month of May, and $263.28 for the month of June.
Discussion was held concerning the new Chapter Eight of the Town by -laws which Adah and David are currently
working on.
Currently the shelter has 5 dogs and 15 cats (6 being kittens). There is an eye problem for three of the kittens in the
quarantine room. 3 kittens recently passed away that the volunteers had been syringe feeding. The cat Madah, who
was discussed at length at the last meeting because of her swollen lip, i doing fine. And three cats have been moved
to Kitty City. The dog Caesar was also discussed, and in all likelihood, will be put to sleep.
The discussion of the cats in quarantine, and health issues lead to a discussion of the cramped quarters. The major
concern discussed was how the shelter is not equipped to handle animals in quarantine, since there is no isolation
room for incoming animals One idea that came up was to get an on -site trailer to house animals in quarantine.
Another idea was to tear down the wall in the hallway to enlarge the quarantine area, put in a sink and get screen
door for the back entrance for easy access.
A discussion was held concerning the dog -waste issue. The committee came up with several ideas for campaigns to
spread awareness: a Friendly Reminder campaign, Good Neighbor policy, or postcards to owners about clean -up.
