The Animal Welfare Committee met on July 23 at the Town Hall. Five members were present to establish
a quorum. Also attending the meeting were Betsy Wagner and Rose Wool.
A financial report was not presented, however a check for $100 was received from Alladan Kennels from
donation the can placed there.
There was much discussion about the new proposed charter, and it was announced that a public Charter
Committee hearing will be taking place on Tuesday August 11, 1998 at 7:30 PM. The chapter 8 by -laws
were also discussed at length focusing on euthanasia and feral cats. The proposed by -law revisions are in
their final draft form and will be completed soon. All AWC members will receive a final copy for comments
before the proposed changes will be submitted to the Town Manager.
Officially, this meeting marked the first for the new non - profit organization Mansfield Shelter Friends Inc.
that will enable us to raise money for the shelter as a non - profit entity. The AWC will continue as is, while
the new non - profit will serve as a separate group for fund- raising purposes. Rose Wool printed up new
labels for the cans that are located around town.
Currently 2 dogs and 15 cats reside at the shelter, all in good health.
The committee would like to extend its deepest sympathies to former long -time member Sue Talavera who
recently lost her beloved dog Goldee. Our thoughts and prayers are with her.
We set August 20. 1998 at 7:30 PM at the Town Hall as the next committee meeting.
