Executive Session Minutes

Mr. Williams stated with upcoming union contract negotiations he would like to begin
discussions with the Selectmen on the process and would like to hear their thoughts. Mr.
Williams also stated that he has not included money for salary adjustments in the budget and
asked whether or not theb Selectmen would like wage increases in the budget.
Chairman Madan stated that he would be in favor of raises based upon inflation only.
Clerk Mahana stated that he would be in favor of raises being based upon inflation and that he
would like to see a two tier schedule.
Selectman Colella stated that he may be in favor of a 2% raise.
Selectman Robinson stated that he may be in favor of granting raises in accordance with the
Cost of Living increase. Selectman Robinson also stated that he would be in favor of a three
year agreement.
Selectman Pasquale stated that step raises would have to be factored in and that he would like
to compare salaries with Easton, Norton, and Foxboro. Selectman Pasquale also suggested
raises in accordance with the CPI and stated that he is in favor of a three year agreement.
Different ideas discussed as possible bargaining mechanisms were as follows: use of reserve
police officers when regular officers are out sick, use of call firefighters, and privatization of
ambulance service.
Chairman Madan stated that he does not wish to cut what has already been given to
employees but does wish to slow the growth of what is being given; Clerk Mahana agreed.
Chairman Madan also asked if the level of staffing for both the Police and Fire Departments is
sufficient.
The executive session concluded with Mr. Williams requesting each of the Selectmen come
up with three things they would like to achieve through the collective bargaining process,
which he would try to inlcude in the contract demands. Selectman Pasquale requested a
spread sheet.
