TOWN OF MANSFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS"
50 West Street, Mansfield, MA 02048
BOARD OF HEALTH
MEMORANDUM
TO: William F. Williams, Town Manager
FROM: Scott Leite, Health
DATE: November 2, 1995
SUBJECT: Fluoridation
During 1991, the Board of Health began the process for ordering
fluoridation to the public water supply. On January 3, 1992, as a result of
the Board's vote, the order to fluoridate became valid. Because of fiscal
problems and limitations, the order was stayed until a more favorable
time.
It is anticipated that in FY97 the Town will be funded for this work by a
grant from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health/Office of
Dental Health. The work is funded by a block grant from Congress and
then further apportioned by the State. As you are aware, the Federal
government is without a budget at this time, therefore the true status of
Mansfield's grant is in question.
It is the intent of the Board of Health that this project go forward, with or
without the grant. It is my understanding from former Town Engineer,
Robert Swanson that this will be a reimbursement from the state;
therefore, the entire amount for this project needs to be budgeted in the
FY 97 Capital Improvements plan.
