On January 1 of each year all Sergeants and Patrolmen are zeroed out for both overtime and detail work. Overtime and detail work is distributed down the line in two dif- ferent groups, partrolmen and sergeants, beginning with the first Sergeant following through to all other Sergeants and 3 also the first partolman following through to the remaining patrolmen. Should someone refuse overtime or detail work, they are charged for it anyway, and when a detail or over- time comes up again the next person in line will be asked. Following Acting Chief O'Neill's explanation, members of the Board of Selectmen asked him questions regarding the proce- dure used, average hourly work week of patrolmen, and over- time and detail rates.
