Williams '" , 1. The meeting was called to order at 7:38 P.M. and the Flag saluted. Chairman Sarro then announced that the Chairman of the Finance Committee, Philip Smith, would like to say a few words. Phil stated the numbers for the budget were not yet final, but they hope to have them within the next two weeks. His committee is trying to make the budget level funded and put a sum of money into the Capital Improvements fund; they do not want to see the infrastructure collapse. He said his committee met with the School Committee Monday night, and the School Committee is considering teacher salary deferrals. The Finance Committee presented them with a preliminary number which would require an override of approximately $90,000; an override may be necessary to maintain existing services. Chairman Sarro asked him to explain the teacher salary deferral and what it would do to taxes; one thing it means is that partial payment of sal- aries is just put off until next year. Phil said the FinCom has not made a decision on this, but they expect revenues to only grow 3 -4% over the next few years. Selectman Pasquale asked what the increase is for the municipal budget - 1 %; for the School budget - approximately 5 + %. He then pointed out what the auditors stated when they met with the Selectmen - "Mansfield has to learn to live within its budget ".
