Selectman D'Onofrio raised concern that a single property owner should

Alan Riendeau and Lon Compton, auditors, were present to make their report
of their audit. They said the Town's compliance with Revenue Sharing rules
and regulations was 100% acceptable; there were two minor exceptions made
on the financial statements prepared by the Town; and no material weak-
nesses in "internal control ". Selectmen Mahana and D'Onofrio both ques-
tioned them as to how they missed the $30,000 unpaid bills (Payables) in
the DPW, and why it wasn't mentioned in the management letter. Selectman
D'Onofrio made it very clear that he felt this a serious oversight on their
part. They said they would look into it if the Board wished. The Town
Accountant and Treasurer were both present also; they explained that utility
bills and things under contract do not have purchase orders written, which
is why the $30,000 was not picked up (it was electric bills). Ordinarily,
they said, there are several checks (signatures) required covering bills/
payments. The Chairman closed the discussion by stating he wanted every-
one to know the Board considers the Town has two of the finest people work-
ing for it, the Treasurer and Accountant, and the Town has no money missing.
