Selectman Mahana spoke for all the Board members in support of the flag
raising on behalf of the Missing In Action, but reminded Mr. King that the
Selectmen would be at the MMA Annual Meeting in Hyannis that weekend. Mr.
King suggested that perhaps they could appoint a representative.
8. Public Hearing /Real Estate Classification
The Board of Assessors and Tom Accountant were present. The Town Account-
ant opened by explaining various graphs she had prepared showing: Total
Property Taxation (Commercial, Industrial, Residential); Per Capita Taxa-
tion; Benefits Received, Industrial, Residential; Where Property Tax Goes;
Number of Properties (Residential, Industrial, Commercial). She also
showed, graphically, that the 37 largest taxpayers pay 39% of the taxes,
30% water usage, 55% electric and 60% sewer. She said $0.78 of every dollar
goes for education.
Ralph Seifert, Chairman of the IDC, said he represents industry and supports
classification. He feels industry is prepared to pay what they paid last
year and classification will allow residents a fairer tax. Bob Dalton of
CC &F said he had reservations about classification. Bob Saquet suggested
a tax parity policy along with classification if it is adopted. Selectman
( Mahana then pointed out that no policy can be carried over to another board.
He went on to say Town Meeting (the people) has directed the Town to enter
