FY27 School Budget Review
The district and committee discussed the override process and reviewed expected reductions for both a
budget with an override/debt exclusion or a budget without an override/debt exclusion. They reviewed
potential position/personnel reductions that will be needed to meet the town -directed cuts. The district
is prioritizing the need to keep student -facing positions as much as possible. Other items discussed were
class loads, class sizes and district mandates. DART comparison schools were researched. When
positions are eliminated there is a reduction not only of salary but also benefits. As the district
progresses with cuts, there will be a better sense of benefit cost savings. The next steps are:
• Identify the reduction of employee benefits
• Present department/cost center and FTE cuts along with the March slide deck to the Tri-Board
• Identify full impact of Title I funding reductions
• Establish the budget messaging including market rates and district comparisons for nonunion
personnel
Review and Discussion of FY26 Food Services Revolving Account
Reviewed completed and proposed projects.
Review and Discussion of FY27 Fees for Summer Programs
Discussed setting minimum class sizes to ensure profitability. Matt Violette noted that fees have
minimal impact on the overall budget. He will review and propose a summer fee structure for school
committee to review and vote on March 24' or April 7'. This will include the Mansfield Summer
Institute and Summer School. Amy Bright noted that she is in discussion with Norton Public Schools to
collaborate on summer school programming in the future.
Policy Discussion
All policy was deferred to the policy subcommittee. However, the group did review/discuss the school
committee process for accepting gifts and grants in anticipation of incoming funds for next year. Relative
to the future advertising policy, the subcommittee and district discussed the use of the facilities
revolving account to manage funds. It was recommended that changes might be needed to the 1JF
Student Activity Account policy in order to incorporate recent audit findings.
