Attendance: Giampaolo DiGregorio (Chair), Dan Cavicchi, La4AAy, klaim6bTf c,
Annette Shaw (virtual), Drew Owens, Eileen Cusack, and Nancy Breef-Pilz
(arrived at 7:30).
The meeting was called to order at 7:11 PM by the chairperson.
Fisher Richardson House: Paolo started the meeting with a letter from Lou
Andrews, Curator, reporting on the season at the FR House. Lou is stepping
down as curator. Paolo will check with Mike Ahern concerning the building's roof.
The Commission's next meeting (November) will focus on the Fisher Richardson
House. All stakeholders will be invited to attend (Lou, docents, Historical Society
members, etc.) to discuss what is needed at the FR House.
(Eileen took notes until Nancy arrived)
Minutes: Minutes from August 12, 2025 were reviewed. Drew pointed out the
misspelling of his name. Motion was made by Nancy to accept the minutes with
the correction to the spelling; seconded by Lavanya. Motion was unanimous.
Commission Website: Dan made a proposal with information for the
Commission's website. It was reviewed and discussed. All changes need to be
sent to the town's IT Department and Sasha will update the website. Lavanya
made a motion to revitalize the Historical Commission's website using
suggestions in the proposal; seconded by Eileen. Motion was unanimous.
Official Email Address: The Commission has an official Town of Mansfield
email address that should be used for all official communication. A
corresponding secretary position is needed to check that email and respond
using that address. Lavanya volunteered and was accepted in that position.
MACRIS Project: Dan and Lavanya are creating a list of current buildings that
could be added to an updated MACRIS listing. Lavanya obtained a digital list
from the town's Accessor's office which can be sorted to show what was built
before 1925. This project continues.
Boston Post Cane Award: The Post Cane Award is given to the oldest citizen
in Mansfield. It was originally started by the Boston Post newspaper in 1909
when an actual cane was given to the towns in Massachusetts to award to the
oldest male citizen in town. (It was opened to women in 1930.) John O'Connor
of North Main Street is now the oldest citizen in Mansfield. Paolo will contact his
family to see if he is willing to accept the award. If so, arrangements will be
made to present the honors. Currently a certificate is given since the original
cane was lost in the 1950s.
Updated Logo: The new Historical Commission logo has been approved and
will be used on our updated website.
Quilt Square: The 250th Celebration Quilt is scheduled to be finished and
dedicated on the final sestercentennial event on December 13.
Roland Green School: The responsibility of the Roland Green building is still
under the School Department, but will move to the Select Board. We will continue
to monitor the decisions made concerning the building.
Meeting Schedule: The next meeting was suggested for Tuesday, November
18 at 7PM. There was discussion about meeting every other month on an
established day. A schedule will be set up at our next meeting.
Adjournment: Motion was made by Eileen to adjourn the meeting at 8:30 PM;
seconded by Lavanya. Motion unanimous.
Respectfully submitted,
