New Business:
Consideration of appointment of Director of Finance and Operations
Superintendent Murphy provided background information on Matt Violette who has been selected as the new
Director of Finance and Operations for Mansfield Public Schools. Matt has degrees from both UMass Amherst and
Bryant University and is currently serving as the Assistant Town Manager of Mansfield. Prior to that he had
experience in other districts as well as being an auditor for municipalities and school districts in the area. The
district is very pleased that he has applied for this position.
Steve Schoonveld asked about the differences between having an Assistant Superintendent of Finance and
Operations vs a Director of Finance and Operations. The position remains the same. The title is specific to proper
DESE licensing. Matt Violette is already working toward getting the proper licensing through a planned internship
with Ed Donoghue, coursework and exams. Steve also noted how important it is for us to have Matt's experience
with the Mansfield budgets.
The committee shared complementary comments about bringing Mr. Violette on board
Jenn Sellon asked for a start date and if our budget could float two salaries over the summer. Teresa noted that
the start date is July 15 and yes, the budget can accommodate the overlap allowing for a mentorship period.
It was noted that procedurally, the committee approves the appointment that Superintendent Murphy has
requested.
