V.M. Shannon Dempsey Alternate Alternate Present: AWC: Carol Kosel, Sharon Baker, Mary Andrews, Shannon Dempsey, Ana V illella, Erika Cervasio A.C.O.: Francesca Politsopoulos The Animal Welfare Committee meeting was called to order at 6:05 p.m. at Mansfield Airport. Approve Minutes Motion: To approve the minutes from January16, 2025. Passes. A.C. O. Report • Francesca introduced a new shelter coordinator, Jada Lebron. Jada will take over the following responsibilities: o Recording, tracking, and ordering Hill's pet food o Sitting at the front desk during some shifts o Ordering office and shelter supplies o Providing transport to veterinary appointments o Working with social media o Providing enrichment for animals o Helping to train volunteers • Tippy, a new cat at the shelter, was trapped in Mansfield. She has a tipped ear, so was probably part of a TNR program. Tippy will be on hold for 10 days. If she is not sufficiently socialized to be adopted, she will be returned to the place where she was found. • Francesca thinks all TNR cats must be microchipped before being released. Sharon stated that chipping had never been part of the process in the past, and she was unaware of that requirement. Sharon will investigate, and Francesca will double check with Kaycee Bailey. • Francesca wants all pets to be microchipped prior to adoption. They can be chipped during spay/neuter. A plan needs to be developed for chipping pets that are already spayed or neutered. • All incoming animals, even surrenders, should be scanned for chips. Page 1 of 2 A dog might be surrendered soon: small female, under one year old. The owners are having trouble house training the dog. Lights are finally installed and working in the dog play area. Cats Morning shifts report that the cats don't like and are not eating the Hill's canned food. The Saturday morning shift will check food charts to see how widespread the problem is. Miscellaneous • Preventative measures against mice seem to be working. Val Cabral volunteered to check mice traps on Fridays. • Erika told us that when we clean mouse droppings at the shelter we should wear glasses, masks, and gloves. • Carol reported that the parking lot was insufficiently plowed of snow last Sunday morning, and visitors had to walk through snow to get into the shelter. DPW should be asked to clear snow completely in the future. Adjournment • Adjourned at 7:00 pm ACc/-I 14dr9uS Mary Andrews Signature of Clerk Date: 2/20/2025 Page 2 of 2
