HomeMy WebLinkAboutSchool Comm 01/07/2025Approved 03-25-25 Mansfield School Committee Meeting / Workshop Superintendent's Office Minutes for Tuesday, January 07, 2025 In Person An Open Meeting of the Mansfield School Committee was held in person on Tuesday, January 07, 2025. The meeting session called was called to order by Chair Steve Schoonveld at 7:05 p.m. Members Present: Steve Schoonveld Lynn Cavicchi Jenifer Sellon Jenn Walsh Vivian Webster (remote) Members Absent: None Administration Present: None CO o CD rn _ n rn Chair Schoonveld provided some introduction and then identified the responsibilities of the search committee and full committee. The search committee will interview based on the criteria and questions established as a result of focus groups, school committee input and surveys. Only the search committee will have access to the names of applicants as it is highly confidential. Only the finalist candidates are revealed publicly. Each committee member is being asked to identify two questions as a starting platform for the question development. These are due to Diane Nugent by Sunday afternoon. Glen Koocher of MASC will develop a packet of this information for the first search committee meeting. Topics suggested included Al, graduation requirements, budget, district vision, role of the superintendent, student needs, managing change. The questions need to be the same for each candidate though the committee could follow up with additional questions as needed. It was also noted that there are many questions that cannot be asked such as age, family size, residency, military background. MASC will review these with the search committee. The goal is 15 — 20 questions per candidate, interviewing 2 candidates per evening. The search committee will determine some of the details of the interview such as when to give the questions to the candidates. Once the finalists are identified, they will each visit Mansfield Schools meeting with various stakeholders before a final interview. No vote was taken on the criteria as the members will assemble those as part of the interview questions over the weekend. Consideration of support for town meeting motions. The articles pertinent to the school committee are #5.1 and #5.2 for various Capital Improvement projects and #12 for future contracts on digital licenses and textbooks.
