Accessible Spaces: Safe, well -maintained public areas. 2. Transportation: Affordable, senior -friendly transit options. 3. Housing: Accessible, affordable housing options. 4. Social Opportunities: Programs to prevent isolation. 5. Respect and Inclusion: Ensuring seniors feel valued. 6. Civic Involvement: Opportunities for work, volunteering, and participation. 7. Clear Communication: Easy access to information. 8. Health Services: Access to healthcare and support resources. The process begins with submitting a commitment letter to AARP. This letter should outline: 1. Ways to involve older adults in decision -making. 2. A baseline evaluation of the community's current age -friendliness. 3. An action plan to improve age -friendliness based on the evaluation. 4. Progress indicators to measure success. The recommendation from the team was to focus initially on one or two of these key features, then develop a plan that engages older adults in shaping these initiatives. They noted the significant work you and the town have already done, which we can draw from along with our ongoing efforts at the Council on Aging.
