The Animal Welfare Committee meeting was called to order at 6:03 p.m. at Mansfield Airport.
Motion: To approve the minutes from September 19, 2024. Passes.
Francesca provided the Committee members with a copy of proposed volunteer program
updates. The new program will provide for a 5-tiered leveling where volunteers will move up
the tier levels as they become more experienced. Each tier will have certain responsibilities that
the volunteer will be eligible to perform. Additionally, training for current and future volunteers
is included. She asked for any comments/recommendations to the proposal by November 21,
2024 so that training can be created. The program will go into effect on January 1, 2024.
Dogs
• Scooby has his cone off as his wound looks good. He is still on medication for another couple
of days. Scooby does have a couple of applications as well as a potential foster that will be
coming in on Sunday.
• Goose will keep his cone on until Francesca can get him an appointment at WAGS to look at
his ear and hopefully, remove his stitches. Goose also has a potential applicant coming to look
at him this Friday. He also has a few more days of medication.
Cats
It was noted that Fullah is now accepting attention from certain volunteers. Everyone should still
be careful and not push her too much.
• Francesca reported that the back gate to the cement play area is broken and cannot be locked.
She will call the town to get that fixed.
• Francesca is also working with the company that originally provided the dog guillotine doors
to obtain replacements as all of the doors are starting to fail.
In response to a question regarding micro -chipping. Francesca stated that it is a state
requirement that all animals leaving shelters need to be micro -chipped. Because this is a legal
requirement, the Town will begin paying for micro -chips and Ana will work with Francesca to
make sure we are getting chips directly from the company at a discount. Francesca and
Kaycee will take care of chipping all animals before adoption if they are not already chipped.
Carol informed the Committee that the Shelter has been accepted for consideration into the
Hills Shelter Program. This will allow the Shelter to get Hills dry and wet food at discounts
directly from the company. The company will also provide adoption bags which will include
small bags of dry Hills dog or cat food for new pet parents. After some discussion its was
decided that Carol would complete the paperwork and hope we get accepted.
Adjournment
• Adjourned at 7:20pm
