Additional Financial Notes
P6.2
• NIP payments continue to flow in from the businesses. A reminder was sent to Jordami/Bristol
Liquors as they were behind on monthly payments.
• Ana Newell will contact the owner of the new liquor store, Mansfield Liquor Market, located on
Reservoir Street, and provide information about the NIP Program.
• Ana Newell sent invoices to the three businesses downtown who had outstanding balances due.
for the 2024 Downtown Flower Barrel Program.
• There was a suggestion made to donate to the "Papagno GoFundMe" account in support of
MichaelPapagano's volunteer contributions to KMB. Committee members agreed that KMB
will not contribute to the GoFundMe as it does not fall within the parameters of the KMB:
mission. Personal member contributions to this cause may be considered.
Letter for Additional/Alternate KMB Board Members
A motion was made by Mike Healey and seconded by Ana Newell at the September meeting to pursue
additional Board Members/Altemates. Ana Newell drafted the letter, and it was approved by the current
committee members. Jeff Ward will print and sign the final copy and send it to Ana for any additional
attachments before it entailed to the Select Board for approval.
Potential Rte. 106 Embankment Restoration Project
No recent activity to report. Jeff Ward suggested giving this project a separate agenda moving forward as
it will require significant focus. Committee members agree that this area is the gateway into Mansfield
and should be treated as a key project.
Background: In October, Ana Newell met with Andy Littig and Josh Reinke (DPW) to discuss the
potential cleanup and design plans for the embankment that is located near the mural and Rte. 106 '
underpass. The site was originally planted by Guerrini and is overgrown and in need of complete rehab.
There is a possibility of saving some of the evergreen plants so the site will not be completely bare during'
the winter season. The idea of planting some shrubs and grasses like those at the Thomas Street' Memorial
site is being considered.
The triangular garden areas near the pedestrian bridge that is used to transverse the overpass to the train
station also needs to be rehabilitated. They are magnets for trash. DPW also currently maintains the plants'
on the opposite side of Rte. 106 that were originally planted by the'MBTA were not well maintained. That
area is much improved since DPW took over the maintenance. DPW would likely takeover maintaining
the Rte. 106 embankment site once the major cleanup was done and plants conducive to easy maintenance
are planted.
Josh Reinke planned to meet with the Town Manager to discuss options and possible next steps.
Budgetary concerns need to be considered for the project. One source of income for the project funding
may be the Non -Profit Gift Fund. Applications for project funding consideration are due soon.
TRAIN STA Sign and Barrier
The signage and a barrier were put in place by the Clemmey Family and Ana Newell reported that the
family agreed to remove the barrier. Danielle Dupre travels to the train -station daily and will inform the
committee when the barrier is removed. Ana also reached out to Elizabeth Clemmey about potentially
adopting the site. Mrs. Clemmey seemed amenable to potentially maintaining the site and indicated she
would consider a future meeting with Ana.

Traffic Box Wrap at Rte.-106 and Hope Street
The committee already voted to fund this project, and the wrap needs to be designed and finalized for a
spring installation so it's ready for the 2501 celebration activities. No wrap installations can be done in
cold weather.
Pat Colbert reached out several times over the past few months to Karen Reardon, the artist who designs
many of our KMB communication vehicles, about designing the wrap. Eileen Cusack (Cultural Council)
recently measured the box for Pat and Ana communicated the information to Karen, however,
communications with Karen have stalled again and the committee agreed that we may need to take a
different tack to get a design in place. If the committee does not receive a response from the artist by early
spring, we will need to consider other options. Once a design is agreed upon, it must be approved by the
Select Board before contacting the wrap vendor for installation.
Fundraising -
The KMB Committee agreed that we need to send a fundraising letter out to solicit donations to
financially support our 2025 programs especially since we no longer receive an annual funding
contribution from the Town due to budgetary constraints. Ana Newell developed a targeted list of
businesses and past donors. The committee decided that a January 2025 mailing was best and requested
that a picture of the mural be used as the focal point of the letter. The mural was a 2024 project
undertaken by KMB and members agreed it should be highlighted.
Kara Hanks DesRoche introduced a few ideas which were discussed and suggested that a lower sponsor
level be added to the letter to accommodate the smaller business community. Committee members agreed
to add a lower $25-$99 option. The committee also discussed bringing back sponsorship
acknowledgement on the annual Mansfield Spring Cleanup Event t-shirts and finally agreed to bring back
the sponsorship logos.
Next steps will include Jeff Ward making final letter edits with Neil Rhein. Ana Newell or Jeff Ward will
ask Allegra to print, fold letters, and print labels. Jeff will work with Ana on the address file. At the
December meeting, the committee will have a working session and will personalize letters, stuff the
envelopes, and ready them for a January mailing.
Mural Project
Mural cleaning, repair and repainting is 100% complete. Kelly Kemp took before and after pictures. Kelly
walked the mural with artist Ian Gaudreau and agreed that the work has been done to KMB's
specifications and; expectations. The DPW retrieved the hoses, and the site was cleaned and closed for the
winter months. Kelly will contact DPW to provide an official status update and will work with Josh
Reinke to update the contract so the artist can complete the outstanding mural work (additional art and
full revarnish) in the spring.
There is 8k left in the project budget and 5k of that will be directed to fund the additional art/full mural
revarnish. The remaining 3k would be used to cover the'costs of necessary touch-upwork on vandalized"
areas of the mural and possibly the new artwork related to the town's 250th'anniversary.
Vandalism at the mural site was reported to Mansfield Police. No cameras are available to identify the "
vandals. The artist cleaned the vandalized area within 2-3 days as he said it is best to clean affected areas
immediately. The vandal's red paint that was applied in one area was removed, however, the cleaning
process also removed the protective varnish. A decision was made to delay further cleaning as the wall
pg. 4
will be exposed to the winter elements and keeping the mural's protective varnish intact is key. The artist
will address any affected areas that need to be cleaned and touched up in the spring and quoted it would
roughly require one day's work to finish.
Fall Cleanup Event
The Fall cleanup dates for 2024 were November I-11. Volunteers were able to pick up yellow trash bags
from their Precinct Leader or dispose of any collected trash in their personal trash receptacles.
DPW agreed to pick up any full yellow trash bags if the volunteers contacted their leader with the bag
pickup locations.
Although the numbers for the event volunteers were lower than in past years, all the larger, identified
areas where trash was most prevalent were covered. The best news - volunteers reported they found less
trash this Fall!
Adopt -a Street
Danielle Dupre continues to work with new program volunteers. Two streets were recently adopted.
Downtown Flower Barrel Program
The DPW collected all the barrels containing the flowers. Pat Colbert was pleased with this change in the
collection process as it streamlined the step of pulling and disposing of the flowers that is usually done at
barrel storage location. Pat suggested the committee do something special as a way of acknowledging the
DPW team for the assistance they provide KMB with so many varied project related activities. Kelly
Kemp will contact Tracey Whalen to find a good time to drop off pizza to the DPW team as a "thank
you" from KMB.
The committee also discussed planning some type of fundraising appeal in the Spring of 2025 that would
allow community members to sponsor the flower barrels that KMB currently pays for throughout the
downtown area.
Litter Busters
Neil Rhein suggested that we add a Flash Mob or Trash Mob collection event to the winter months. The
committee would pick a Saturday during the winter months, promote it as a last-minute trash pick-up
opportunity and invite community volunteers to join us in a flash trash mob pick up.
We Noticed!
Kara Hanks Desroche and Kelly Kemp will be presenting the award to the new business EpEx on North
Main for their Halloween window display after Thanksgiving.
Town of Mansfield's 250th Anniversary Celebration
There are currently three main events scheduled for 2025: a parade with floats on 17 May 2025,
various events 22-25 August 2025, and a Gala event in October. Further discussions are needed to
determine how KMB plans to participate.
Social Media
Neil Rhein did a presentation suggesting that we have a more prominent social media presence that would
promote all that KMB does for the town and community. This idea may be a good project for the MHS
student, Natalie Maziar. Neil was recently featured on Channel 4 with Lisa Hughes discussing KMB
chapters.
pg. 5
Trash Can Be Beautiful - Painted Barrels
There is a white barrel across from the Catman Cafe on Old Colony that was primed but not painted. Pat
Colbert volunteered to paint the barrel over the winter months. Mike Healey will pick it up and deliver it
to Paps house.
