ADC (Tobacco Free Schools): Lynn Cavicchi met with Health Director Christine Dooling on this and
several other health related policies. Changes proposed by Lynn and Christine were approved. Ready to
go to full committee.
JJIF, JJIF-R, JLCEB are still in review. Postpone.
JLC Student (Health Services), JLCA Physical Examination of Students and JLCC Communicable
Diseases:. Changes were reviewed and additional modifications suggested. Policies with edits are ready
for school committee. Led into a conversation regarding school nurses and field trips. It is becoming
more common that we need to have nurses on extended or overnight field trips. For example the last
two world travel club trips needed some attention to how various medical needs would be met. Going
forward if a nurse is needed the cost would be in the thousands as we would have to hire someone
outside of our staff. Even here, our nursing licenses are often not valid in another state. Need to review
how we manage this going forward. Do we include the cost of a nurse in every trip? What if we don't
need? Where does that money go? The district can't cover expensive nursing costs and we need to
determine if we can pass that cost along to ALL students on the trip.
JLCB (Student Immunizations): Changes were reviewed and approved as stated. Ready for school
committee.

Policy Subcommittee Meeting
Minutes for October 03, 2024
Superintendent's Office, 2 Park Row, Mansfield, MA 02048
JLCEA (Comfort Care/DNR Orders) and 1LCEC (Allergies): Reviewed by Lynn and Christine. No changes
required.
JLCEC-R (Allergy regulations): Changes proposed by Lynn and Christine are good. Ready for school
committee.
KF-R-1 and KF-R-2 still need additional work.
DDA Gifts and Contributions can be deleted but will hold until it can be looked at with KCD Public Gifts
to school. Need to start looking at this policy as it relates to outside gifts to our district; entitlement
grants and other grants for which we apply. We accept some gifts without waiting for school committee
because there may be a time factor. For example, when a local business drops off school supplies at the
beginning of the year or when there is a quick turnaround on a grant application. Grant money should
be presented to the committee- what it is; how it will be used and allocated to cost centers. Typically
gifts of "impact" have been sent to the committee for approval. Examples would be changes to our
facilities, items that require ongoing upkeep, items requiring technology support. Perhaps at the end of
the year we can acknowledge gifts from MESA and PAC. This is possible but would require some level of
effort for each of these parent groups to provide us with these lists. Will begin work on this policy for
the next subcommittee meeting.
Other items within 48 hours-
GCJ: Teacher Professional Status. Andy Waugh of MHTL reviewed and responded to us today. Since this
language is all in statute and contracts, no policy is needed and it can be deleted.
Upcoming Agenda Items- Next meetings will be 11/14/24 5:30 or after and 12/12/24 5:30 or after
Meeting adjourned at 7:27 pm
Respectfully submitted,
Diane Nugent, Administrative Assistant
