PotentW KM$Committee Mi!mbersi'ntroductio'ti,and Discussion,
• Kara Hanks DesRoche, a potential applicant for the open KMB Committee position, was
introduced to the members in attendance at tonight's meeting. Kara Ise 6-yearresidentof
Mansfield and a parent of 3 boys. Kara offers a significant gardening experience background to
our team as She grew up in Western MA in a farming environment. Her knowledge and past
experiences would be a welcome addition to the KMB team as they tie nicely to the KMB
mission and to several of our programs. Kara will complete the required application process so
an interview can be scheduled with the Select Board soon.
• Natalie Mozarz, who was not in attendance and Is a Junior at Mansfield High School, also
expressed Interest in joining the committee. A liaison position between the HS community and

Page 116
More discussion on a student candidate/liaison position is needed.
Potential Additional/Alternate Board Members
Since KMB has expanded its programs and community' outreach over the last few years, the committee'
believes it would be helpful to expand the current voting membership from 9 members to 11 members.,
In addition, the committee would like to add a student member from Mansfield High School to be a
liaison between the HS and KMB Committee. A description of the HS liaison position needs to be
developed. These changes would require modifications to the current charter and approval from the
Select Board.=
The motion was made by Mike Healey and seconded by Ana Newell to pursue these member changes.

Phish WaterWheel Foundation Clean -tip'— Danielle Dupre, took the lead and Pat Colbert and
Mike Healey supported this casual cleanup event that took place on Saturday, 20 July. There
were approximately 30 participants (fans of the Phish Band and their foundation) that met
initially at Fultoh's Pond to get their supplies. They performed some .cleanup around the:
downtown area and Mike Healey took 4 of the volunteers to do watering of the downtown
flower barrels. Danielle took photos during the event as did some participants and Kelly,Kemp
posted to KMB's social media and placed an article in the monthly newsletter. The Sun Chronicle
also posted an article. Danielle suggested that, KMH takeadvantage and coordinate future
events: like this one with the bands who play at Xfinity Center.
3. Harry Chase Park Dedication Dedication took place at the park located behind Jimmy's Pub on
28 August with several KMB members In attendance. Neil Rhein and the Downtown Advisory
Committee were instrumental in getting the park area beautified with meaningful purpose. The
park is a nod to Mansfield's history with the railroad industry and to Harry Chase, who, wrote
many historical articles and several books on the town.

5. Painted Barrel Scavenger Hunt —This was the first year KMB tried to promote this activity after
the Painted Barrel Event that took place 'in Spring. Only 2 participants wereengag6dfind there

was not much activity on FB or Instagram, likely due to tight timing constraints. Since we can
only paint replacements for existing trash barrels, the committee will need to strategize better if
we hope to do a Paint -a -Barrel event and Barrel Scavenger Hunt again in 2025.
Mural Restoration Project Kickoff
Kelly Kemp took over the KMB leadership role for this restoration project that was slated to begin on 3
September 2024. The final mural restoration is planned to be celebrated as part of Mansfield's'250th '
Anniversary in August 2025. The contract is in place between the town and Ian Gaudreau, the muralist
who will perform the restoration work.Anna' Newell is assisting Kelly Kemp with coordinating check
distribution to the artist. Supplies for the project were ordered. The town also required the muralist to
obtain insurance for the project.
Project work cannot begin until September 23rd due to the muralist's completion activities on his past
project commitments. Cleaning of the mural as well as touchup: painting and some revarnishing is slated,
to be completed before the cold weather hits. Any new artistic additions to the mural cannot take placer
during the cold weather (the temperature must be at least 65 degrees) and work may need to be ,
deferred. Target to get the restoration work with revarnishing coat completed is by October 2151.
Kelly Kemp is coordinating with DPW to assist Ian as he is slated to begin initial mural cleaning activities
on the 23`d. Ian asked Kelly to reach out to Mansfield High School to inquire if there are students who
are interested and can assist with mural cleaning activities. Ian will provide instruction and supplies to ;
those who assist him. Martha O'Connell will provide email information to Kelly for Derick Harding at the
MHS Art Dept. Martha will reach out to Eileen Cusack to request her help coordinating engagement with+
the MMAS artistic community as there may be artists interested in helping with restoration activities.
Professor Kelly Geoff from Wheaton College's Art Department may also be a good resource for soliciting:
student help. Martha will also ask Park & Rec about posting mural information on the stationery ad
board outside the old Police Station on West Street. Kelly will follow-up as Park & Rec;has
photographers who may like to work on the project.
Kelly and Danielle will work on promoting the mural activities through social media. Kelly will place some
info in the monthly newsletter. Hopefully, local TV Channel 5 (Chronicle) and Fox 25 (Zip Trip) might be
engaged to report on the project's progress as it ties to the town's anniversary.
