Joshua Dixon, Recreation Pickleball Participant, came before the Commissioners

stated that some days only a few enrolled players show up which makes it difficult
to play games. Sherri Gurnon addressed Mr. Dixon stating the intent on. the
program is for recreational play, not for competition or levels of play, experienced
and new players are invited to participate, Ms, Gurnon felt that the complaints or
how the program changed to utilizing substitutions or non -enrolled players
participating was not discussed with her by the Summer Pickleball Program
Directors. Ed Westhaver relayed to Mr. Dixon that he had brought up some
information that would be best addressed if the members of the Recreation
Commission to go to the courts and make some observation. After those
observations, the Recreation Commissioners will meet to make any necessary

8 by the Open Space Committee. SRPEDD is ready to start applying for grants to move
forward. They will attend a Recreation meeting soon to go over the information they
collected and what will be happening next with the information from the surveys
completed by the Mansfield residents.
• Cluistine Leard disclosed that there were no new updates regarding Memorial Park
Master Plan Study Update.
• Sherri Gurnon stated there were no new updates for 50 West Street. Grants are being
applied for to cover some of the costs.
• Ms. Gurnon stated that attendance at a Library Meeting regarding the Library Meeting
Room status will be discussed in the fall.
• Sherri Gurnon asked Ed Westhaver to speak about the awarding of our 2024 MHS
Scholarship to Eva Hourigan. Mr. Westhaver stated that when he called her name as the

6. New Business:
• Sherri Gurnon received an email from a resident regarding the need for a second AED at
Plymouth Street Recreational Facility. The current AED is located at the concession
stand which is far from most of the events/programs at Plymouth Street. Ms. Gurnon
informed the Recreation Commissioners that she reached out to the Fire Chief, Justin
Desrosiers, regarding this request. He suggested that, in conjunction with Parks and
Recreation, a fundraising campaign is scheduled to be set up online to allow for the
purchase the AEDs and the heated enclosures that are necessary to prevent damage if
temperatures fall below 32 degrees. As money comes in, AEDs will be purchased with
the heated enclosures, starting with the additional one requested at Plymouth Street. The
goal is to have them set up at all the other parks in Mansfield.
• Ms. Gurnon informed the Recreation Commissioners that Mansfield Youth Soccer
permitted Resendes Soccer Camp to use the Plymouth Street fields for their camp during
time that was permitted to MYS by the Parks and Recreation Department. This situation
was addressed last year when it was discovered that MYS sublet to RSC in 2023. They
were told at that time that this was a violation of their permit and money collected from
RSC was to be turned over to the Recreation Department. Due to the second violation,
the Recreation Commissioners agreed to send a letter to the Board of MYS.
• Sherri Gurnon updated the Recreation Commission regarding the cracks at the Memorial
Park Tennis Courts. Ms, Gurnon stated that they are a safety hazard. The courts need to
be replaced and that request has been placed on CIP. In the meantime, this fall, the cracks
will be sealed again which is only a temporary fix.
• Ms. Gurnon notified the Recreation Commissioners that Mr. Tim Selmon announced that
the MHS Turf Fields will be done by Labor Day.
