event. Ana Newell recently received + donations that will be reflected in next montWs financials.
KMB Meeting Minutes 14 May 2024 Page 3
Ana Newell reached out to her new contact in the town's Finance Department to request that the 2K funds
allocated to KMB from the Town of Mansfield for FY2024 be used to cover some of the costs of the new t-
shirts. (See monthly financials for details.)
Ana Newell also reminded the committee that KMB needs to learn if the 2K funds allotted to KMB in past
years will be available for FY 2025. Lack of these funds may increase the need for future fundraising efforts.

Danielle is monitoring the email volume. Danielle distributes emails to committee members as they come into
the Inbox based on their committee responsibilities. Kelly will share Danielle's responsibilities for the present
time.
Trash Can Be Beautiful Program —Paint a Barrel Update
Kelly Kemp successfully coordinated the KMB barrel painting event held on Saturday, 6 April 2024 at the
DPW's East Street facility. The event was publicized on KMB's social media and in the town newsletter. Nine
new trash barrels were painted by event participants. Kelly, posted many of the event photos unsocial media.
As a follow-up, the next social media event for the program will be a scavenger hunt — a "locate a painted
barrel challenge". Maria Borland, a Board Member from the Mansfield Girls Softball League attended the
KMB meeting to lend league's support for the proposed event. A group of girls from the league attended the
April event, painted three barrels, and proposed the idea of a post event scavenger hunt contest.:
A brief discussion of the logistics for the proposed contest took place. Eight of the newly paintedbarrels will
be used for the hunt, while one barrel will be reserved for the KMB table at Family Fun Night in July. The new
barrels will be distributed by DPW throughout the town as barrel replacements where needed. Kelly Kemp will
post the updated list of the barrel locations for the committee on the Google drive once the final locations have
been confirmed.
The kick-off date for the event is TBD and will be promoted on KMB's social media. Participants may be
asked to provide a selfie with a barrel (or multiple barrels) as proof of barrel discovery. Gift cards in the
amount of $25 will be distributed to the contest winners. A drawing would take place and gift cards could be
awarded to the winners at Family Fun Night. The Mansfield Girls Softball League offered to provide 3 of the
gift cards. Rush Bowls on Copeland Drive also offered to provide gift cards. Ana Newell offered to solicit gift
cards from other town businesses such as Flint Farms and Flannel Cow.
More detailed discussion' for event logistics will take place at the KMB June meeting. The KMB Committee
appreciates the support of the Mansfield Girls Softball League.
Mural Restoration Proiect Discussion
Jeff Ward previously requested a formal meeting, with Kevin Dumas (Town Manager) for final buy -in and
project approval for the mural restoration. Mr. Dumas informed the KMB Committee by phone this evening
that the Town of Mansfield will provide funding for the project. This will allow the project to more forward
and eliminate the need for KMB's application for grant funding to the Non -Profit Gift Fund. Kristy Brooks
worked on completing that application and has been in regular contactwith the muralist, Ian Gaudreau. Kristy
offered to lead the project`for KMB with assistance from Kelly Kemp. Other committee members will lend
project assistance and support as needed. Date of the future meeting with Mr. Dumas to enlist project buy -in is
Minutes 14 May 2024
KMB Meeting Minutes 14 May 2024
TBD. Jeff Ward will reach out to schedule. Kristy Brooks, Kelly Kemp, Pat Colbert and Martha O'Connell
hope to attend the meeting with Jeff Ward and Mr. Dumas.
Work on the project's next steps will need to include updating details into Kelly Kemp's draft scope document
to procure plan buy -in and approval. A more detailed breakdown of project expenses will be needed and
included with the plan for financial tracking. A question of fiscal year funding and tracking was raised and
needs to be determined. Kristy Brooks will contact Ian Gaudreau to inform him that KMB is confident of
receiving project funding. Ian is currently working on another project and KMB needs to be assured that his
services will be available to complete the restoration project in the desired timeframe, A formal contract with
Ian Gaudreau will need to be developed. KMB obtained a copy of the past contract that can be used as a guide
(located on the Google drive). Mike Ahern (Operations) should be able to assist with a contract upon request.
KMB obtained a copy of the original mural proposal (copy on Googlc drive) from the artist and Kristy Brooks
obtained more information from the artist that spoke to proposed new artwork that would be included with the
restoration. Any new art proposed will need to be reviewed and approved. Questions regarding how to
incorporate the[town's 250's anniversary, acknowledgement of Nancy Wall and asking the artist to incorporate
a self-portrait into the mural updates were posed as well as how to launch project awareness to the public,
More discussion is required.
KMB has obtained copy of past fundraising literature that could be used as a guide for future fundraising
efforts from the community. Reserve funds may be needed to cover any project cost overruns. There will also
likely be a need to replace the existing mural information kiosk at the Train Station to accommodate new
mural updates. Other key people from Town of Mansfield Administration will be kept informed of the mural
restoration project progress, including: Josh Reinke (DPW), Mike Ahern (Operations) and Chris McDermott
(Economic Development).
Flower Barrel Program
The spring pansies from Patrick Lyon's Nursery, were planted in 117 barrels around the downtown area in
April. Weather kept the pansies looking spectacular this year. Ana Newell reported that she's received'
additional payments for the barrels that will be reflected in next month's financials. Pat Colbert will coordinate
with Ana and update her payment tracking spreadsheet (located in the Downtown Flower Barrel folder). KMB
hopes to "break even" for cost of the flower barrels this year. Last year there was only one program participant
that failed to pay the cost of their flowers. Pat Colbert and Mike Healey regularly fertilize and water the barrels
as needed.
Janice Wivagg reminded the committee about placing flags in the barrels for Memorial Day. Janice currently
has 90 flags that can be used from last year. She will place the flags in barrels before Memorial Day for the
parade. The committee decided that the flags should be removed before the Angel Begonias are planted as last'
year there were issues with the flags being torn or broken.
Mansfield Summer Camp ftogram Rearrest
Mary Sellner reached out to KMB to request our participation in the Mansfield Summer Camp Program held at
Memorial Park during the week of July S. Neil Rhein and Nancy Wall worked in; past years to deliver
presentations to campers on recycling and litter cleanup. Neil often gave a short quiz and awarded small prizesi
(i.e.'t-shirts) to the winners.
Pat Colbert volunteered to take on the challenge his year. It's a great educational; opportunity. She will;
coordinate a date and time with Mary Sellner in July to do a short presentation to the campers. The campers
also painted barrels in past years; however, no barrel painting will take place with the campers this year.

Pat Colbert suggested placing a colorful KMB Flower Barrel on at least one side of a wrap. Mike Healey
suggested placing the KMB gazebo logo on a side. Any other suggestions for wrap design from committee
members are most welcome. We will want the artwork to be aesthetically pleasing as well as standout to the
viewer. The: artwork can be taken from a photo as shown in the Thomas Street box wrap. Pat suggested;
contacting Karen Reardon for design ideas. Eileen Cusack from the Cultural Council may also have artwork
design suggestions from local artists.
Martha O'Connell will reach out to procure the list of available box sites so the committee can decide on a box
location and size. Cost of the boxes to wrap is dependent on box size and cost range is approx. $600-900.
The committee will discuss next steps at the June meeting as the box needs wrapping during warm weather.
Adopt -a -Spot Program
The DPW is currently mulching existing AaS sites. No new AaS sites will be developed this 2024 season per
request of the Town Manager due to fiscal: constraints.
Ana Newel is working with Driven Landscapes on enhancing plantings at the AaS site beside Happy Hollow
on Main St. She received a request from Elizabeth Clemmey to develop a new AaS site. Kristy Brooks
offered to work with Elizabeth and share her site on Chauncy Street at Devine Square to add, any new plantings
and care for the site. Ana Newell was able to get the butterfly garden site at the Jordan Jackson School cleaned
up by a volunteer. She is also working with Mike Healey on improvements to the AaS site on West Street near
Fulton's Pond.

Great Mangfield Snring,Cjlgannn 2024
Pleased to report another successful KMB spring cleanup event. The weather cooperated and despite the need
to change the location of the after cleanup picnic, committee members agreed the Fulton's Pond location
worked out perfectly. The pond area looked pristine thanks to the hard work of the DPW crew. Volunteers
enjoyed the new venue which provided ample opportunity for them to enjoy the town games as well as seating
options for relishing the delicious Cousins pizza and snacks. The trash collection drop-off location at the old
Mansfield Police Station worked well for the volunteers and well as for DPW who did the usual great job
providing visibility to the trash pile which makes a powerful statement. The location also worked well for ease
of parking. Having the Police Officer on board to cross volunteers to the pond area was a wise decision.
We need to send "thank you" notes to those who helped in various ways with the cleanup event (U. DPW,
Cousins Pizza, Stop & Shop, Volunteer Photographer, etc.)
Post Event Recommendations from the KMB Team
1. The KMB volunteer in charge of late registration walk-ups needs to be at designated registration
location a half hour earlier than advertised to public.
2. There were approximately 30 walk-up cleanup volunteers for late registration: 1 big group of 20, 3
smaller groups of 2-3. Be sure there are large maps of precinct streets available to facilitate
assignments.
KMB Meeting Minutes 14 May 2024 Page 7
3. Review last minute registration process to improve the flow. Suggest we try to provide last minute
registrants the link to registration. This makes them more accountable and gives people a sense of
counting on them to participate. It also gives us the ability to have t- shirts ready for them.
4. Do we want to offer more t- shirts? We ran out of sizes at walk up registrations. Devise abetter way to
give out t-shirts to those who actually cleaned up. Consider Only offering t-shirts to volunteers
through registration only? There is also a need to offer a few ;t-shirts in larger sizes (XXL-4XL). Pat
Colbert made a note of this need for next year's order. Sizes also need to be updated on the website.
5. Copeland Drive area needs more volunteers for cleanup. There are fewer community groups with
many families and small groups registered. This has been the registration trend for the past two
years. No Boy Scout Troops registered this year as well as fewer athletic groups. Pat Colbert noted
that KMB might consider reaching out directly to the coaches of athletic teams rather than the Athletic
Director.
6. People start to show up at the picnic location around 10:30. Do we need the pizza delivered earlier or
maybe have more donut holes?
7. People tend to leave the picnic area by 12:30. Should we publish picnic time end at 12:30? This gives
KMB volunteers time to gather up supplies and breakdown the venue earlier. Games and supplies
need to be returned to Town Hall and Fruit Street. The half hour gives KMB volunteers a chance to
return home alittle earlier. -
8. Discuss ways to better organize the grabber drop and storage. Grabbers were left in piles at the Police
Station and had to be sorted and boxed.
9. Stop & Shop sent volunteers for set-up. It would be helpful to have their volunteer staff at picnic end
cleanup as lawn games, tents and tables need to be broken down and placed in vehicles for returns.
Some of these items are heavy to carry.
10. Cousins Pizza was a hit per usual. The owner can't do enough to support KMB and this event. The 8
and 12 cut variations per pizza box worked out well. Since we had approx. 8 pizzas left, we might
consider giving out some plates with 2 slices of pizza. This might cut down on a bit of paper plate
waste as well. Paper goods are donated but we could consider using some compostable plates if
available. The leftover pizzas went to a good home at the East Street Safety Complex.
11. The water for the picnic is donated. We received 20 cases and used 14. Some people bring their own
water bottles. More bottled water might be consumed if the weather is warmer. The leftover water was
sent to the local Food Pantry.''
12. We may need fewer snacks (50 less?) and more fruit. People enjoyed the apples and mandarins and
there were justthe right amount of cookie snacks. Cheetos<and Doritos were on the request list for
next year.
13. Remember to bring the KMB logo tablecloth for the promo table to the picnic.
14. We confirmed in conversations with Andy Littig that there is power (from small pond fountain). This
will support a microphone if needed. Music worked well from battery operated unit
15. People liked the watering cans. Consider purchasing a few for sale. Maybe get a "Support KMB" type
label printed for these cans.
16. Supplies needed for the. KMB-Fall Cleanup are, in good shape. The Fruit Street storage unit can use a
bit of organization.
