Minutes for Wednesday, lFebruary 28, 2024
Tri-Board Budget Consensus Meeting
An Open Meeting of the Mansfield School Committee was held in person Wednesday, February 28,
2024 in community
room of the public safety complex. The open meetingsession was called to
order by Chair Lynn Cavicchi at 6:05 p.m.

A full set of minutes can be found under the Town Budget Subcommittee.
School Committee attended the Town of Mansfield Budget Sub' -committee along with the Select
Board, Finance Committee and Town leaders to discuss details of the FY25 budget. Assistant
Town Manager Matthew Violette presented a series of slides detailing options in order to help
reduce the budget gap. The town is no longer presenting a level services budget for FY25. We
are still waiting for final figures for state aid. Included in next steps is looking forward to FY26.
How do we get back to level services at that time? (This would really mean enhancing the FY25
budget to get us back to where we were in'FY24.) One concern is that state aid continues to
decline (when adjusted for inflation) while the number of unfunded mandates continue to rise
especially for the schools. Potential school budget reductions were discussed including utility i
cost savings primarily from the new MHS boiler, reductions in special education tioii. and
possibly some staff cuts (as a last choice.)
