The district recognizes the difficulty a day off means for some families and expresses gratitude for allowing us this day of training. Assistant Superintendent EdwardDonoghue updated the committee on several projects. Prep work has begun for the QMS boiler project. Bids have been submitted for each of the three summer projects (six for the track and field, seven for the gym and seven for the Robinson playground.) We are fortunate that the low bids came within our estimated cost. Ed will move forward with due diligence and then award the contracts, Town Manager Kevin Dumas has indicated with the difficult budget year, the town will be unable to commit funds for the Jordan/Jackson Roof Replacement MSBA request. Without town funding (for approximately 48% of the total cost), we cannot move forward with the application. Steve Schoonveld asked if we had an alternate plan for the roof. Ed noted that we can submit the following year but after that there would be a one-year gap before we could try again. Jenn Walsh asked how long we have to complete the project once approved. Ed noted we have`.180 daysSteve suggested that we should still try to apply and then turn it down later if we cannot provide funding. Steve asked for the risk in not doing this now. There are leaks impacting some classrooms/teachers. The inspection indicated that a replacement is needed. Lynn Cavicchi also Page 1 of 4 i Approved 03-12-24 Mansfield School Committee Meeting Minutes for Tuesday, February 27, 2024 In Person & Virtual Meeting using GoToWebinar expressed concern that there is no funding available now or possibly in the near future. What is plan B? We would continue to make repairs as needed. Teresa Murphy noted that she and Ed Donoghue did have a conversation with Kevin Dumas, He does not feel the community can take on another big funded project. Teresa reminded the committee that this year we were very fortunate that the town approved capital for the track & field, gym and playground. In addition, we have a desperate need to replace the chiller at Jordan/Jackson. We are hoping that some free cash will be made available for us to use for the chiller. She also noted that it may not look favorably to request and then turn down an accelerated repair grant. We also need to consider that we are embarking on an educational space study. She is comfortable deferring to the decision of the town manager. High School Representative Report: Andrew Fleischmalnl provided ailupdate on winter sports. The season is wrapping up with championship finishes by the gymnastics and track teams. Basketball teams are moving to the playoff round starting on Friday. Spring sports will be kicking off soon. Motion to approve the MHS Project Teammate (Unified Music Class) to Providence, RI by Jem1 Walsh / Jenifer Sellon Motion Carries 5 - 0 Consideration of Policies, The following policies were reviewed for modification. At the last meeting these policies were added to the agenda as ones requiring no change. However, there was some question on language around the busdriver having "complete control." After further review, the recommendation is to remove the last two paragraphs to align with MASC. These items would more appropriately be part of handbooks or student conduct rules.
