Fundraising 2024 Jeff Ward opened the meeting's fundraising discussion with a proposal to discuss the undertaking of the town mural restoration project. The KMB Committee previously voted to pursue the mural restoration as a KMB project as the art is an asset to the town and its history. The committee members agreed to concentrate their 2024 fundraising efforts to fund the project in case any applied for grant monies fall short. Fundraising efforts undertaken by the committee in the near future will be geared toward funding the mural restoration. Target date for the restoration completion is to coincide with the Town of Mansfield's 250th celebration on 23 August 2025. Ideally, the mural work would be completed by end of Y2024. Since Ian Gaudreau, the original muralist was present; the meeting proceeded with a discussion of the project. 2. Mural Restnratiou Proiec Ian Gaudreau provided some background information on the original mural project which was a two year effort completed in 2015 and spearheaded by Nancy Wall, past KMB Chair. Our committee would like to somehow acknowledge Nancy's work effort on the original project. How this acknowledgement will be incorporated into the new project is TBD. Ian explained that the best months for working on the mural wall would be June -November due to possible air condensation that might cause the wall to sweat. KMB Mtg. Minutes 27 February 2024 Page 3 KMB Meeting Minutes 27 February2024 The initial high level invoice containing a breakdown of the restorative work, options and costs was reviewed. Ian explained the invoice's level of tiers, timing, etc. (See invoice document below.) The original mural project had a 14 page proposal. The timing of activities on the current invoice should be reviewed and adjusted. Conditions such as inclement or hot/cold weather could impact work progress and add to the tiered projected timelines. tMFSt GNs rmgdesigna.net pate 1 /16/2024 IanfslGaudreau 131 Washington st suite 303 Invoice number.81J ? The wall has some calcium deposits and is protected by several coats of varnish which will require the KMB Mtg. Minutes 27 February 2024 Page 4 KMB Meeting Minutes 27 February 2024' use of a chemical solvent to clean. Effort required to clean the entire surface is estimated. Some sections are more affected by environmental factors than others. Some areas of the mural may need repainting. For example, the Fisher —Richardson House, a historic house on Willow Street, is portrayed on the mural and there is some leakage around the scene that Ian said can be repainted and resealed. There is a face of Abe Lincoln on a train that has some damage. There is also some rust damage, likely from a screw in the wall. There are some lime scale streaks and "thin paint" sections that may require repainting. The 1st epoxy coating on the wall was done by the Town of Mansfield and there is evidence- of some spider webbing, crackle, and bubble areas due to the epoxy. The bubble areas are more prominent in summer and areas with the thinner paint are more affected (i.e. the ribbon section). There is some residual damage from the green railing across the top of the wall. -Damage may be due to the application of salt in the area during the past winters. It is unclear if the railing is property of the MBTA or, Town of Mansfield. In either case, the railing needs to be resealed to prevent further mural damage. If possible, Ian would like to add to the current mural to depict how people in Mansfield lived between the 1930's and 1950's after the refurbishing activities are completed. Additions would be part of the Tier 3 work outlined in the invoice. There is a small plaque at the train station that has limited info about the existing mural. A new mural history , panel similar to the one at Fulton's Pond could be created to replace the old one that contains some misinformation. Costs of these panels are approx. $150042,000. Ian had some ideas for fundraising (create a, collage, FFN offerings, Mural Night Lighting Event, destination _ site fundraiser at a brewery, etc.) These options will be explored as the committee also discussed setting aside funds for the mural upkeep going forward to avoid waiting another 10,years for mural cleaning or minor repairs. 3. Grant Prot ar m Onuortunities for Project Funding The KMB Committee will move forward and complete a grant application to the Non Profit Gift Fund for the mural restoration project. Kristy Brooks started to complete the form. Mike Healey stressed the need to provide sufficient details (i.e. specific breakdown of costs Le, product vs. labor) as; KMB plans to request funds in the amount of $15K. The details will be important to the Non Profit Gift Fund Committee during their application review; Applications open 4 March 2024 and are reviewed for consideration in June. Funds are disbursed 1 July 2024. Note: Key people from Town of Mansfield Administration need to be kept informed of the mural restoration project progress, including: Josh Reinke (DPW), Mike Ahern (Operations), Chris McDermott (Economic Development) and Kevin Dumas (Town Manager). When Jeff Ward met previously with Mr. Dumas, Kevin indicated that he fully supports the efforts for the mural restoration. It was mentioned during the January KMB meeting that a letter signed by Kevin Dumas supporting the mural project would help when sending out grant applications. There is a requirement to have a legal contract with the muralist to set specific parameters for the restoration completion. Mike Ahern will be accessible to help with the formal contract. Kristy Brooks has been spearheading the project on behalf of KMB. Committee members will assist with their talents as the project moves forward. 4. Other Mural Discussion Items - Mike Healey made a suggestion about approaching BOS about discretionary mural funding. Ana Newell will reach out to Mike Towbridge to explore any possibilities outside of the Non Profit Gift Fund. - The KMB committee will create a detailed project plan for tracking and accountability once we know funding is secured. KMB Mtg. Minutes 27 February 2024 Page 5 KMB Meeting Minutes 27 February 2024 Explore PR and funding opportunities that will help identify additional funding resources such a filming work, producing a video or application, reaching out to news outlets to promote mural restoration, promotion in the town's newsletter, etc: Ongoing Programs Great Mansfield Cleanup 2024 Dates and Spring Cleanup Banner Spring Cleanup Event Date: 27 April 2024 Fall Cleanup Dates: 1-11 November 2024 Since most of the meeting discussion focused on the mural project, the committee will devote more time to the spring cleanup at the March meeting.' - Mike Healy would like to conduct an inventory review at the next meeting to address supply needs for the cleanup event. He will assist Jeff Ward in completing the paperwork required by the town for the event and picnic at South Common. - KMB will continue to use Cousins Pizza as food vendor for the picnic. -Pat Colbert is following up with Karen Reardon on the new 2024 spring cleanup banner. Bay State Envelope is producing the banner. Costs were covered by a grant from the Non Profit Gift Fund. Banner will be hung over Rte.106 during first 2'weeks of April. - Kelly Kemp said registration for April 27, 2024 Great Mansfield Cleanup is OPEN. Visit the website's Clean up page https://www.keepinanstieldbeautiftil.coin/great-maiisfield-cleanui)for more details. Kelly will send Pat Colbert the registration link to send to the Precinct Leaders'. -The annual KMB Fundraising letter usually sent to potential event sponsors will be revamped. Ana Newell obtained a list of town businesses from the Assessor's office in an effort to improve the list used for fundraising last year. She will cross reference the list with businesses listed in Mansfield and the Tri-Town Chamber of Commerce. She offered to target only the larger clean-up sponsors of the past in effort to solicit donations for the spring clean-up and picnic. Trash Can Be Beautiful Program - Painted Barrels Kelly Kemp has a meeting with Josh Reinke (DPW) on March 5' or 6' in the afternoon to discuss a potential KMB barrel painting event at end of March 2024. Kelly would appreciate support from another committee memberat the meeting if anyone is available. " Given that KMB decided to move forward with the mural restoration and the spring cleanup event and downtown flower barrel plantings will be coming up in April, it may not be'feasible to pull the barrel event together in the short timeframe this year. Kelly will meet with Josh to discuss opportunities. The KMB committee previously discussed particulars for this type of event including; an item specifying that families and friends in groups of 4-6 could paint a barrel during the event. All children participating in the event would also need to be supervised by an adult (at least 21 years -old). A number of volunteers would be required to support the event and barrels would be required from DPW. KMB currently has no barrels; however, Mike Healy mentioned KMB can purchase barrels, if needed. Martha O'Connell volunteered to reach out to Derek Harding at MHS to inquire about students painting, two KMB Mtg. Minutes 27 February 2024 Page KMB Meeting Minutes 27``February 2024 barrels as an end of year project. We may also need a painted barrel for FFN in July. Flower Barrel Proeram The discussion of the spring barrel plantings will be on the agenda for an upcoming KMB meeting. Nothing else new to report on this program with the exception of the mention of the one downtown business that still did not pay for their flower barrels in 2023,(Trattoria Della Nona - $120.00). The restaurant will not likely be offered the opportunity to participate in the program this season. Danielle Dupre continues to work with Chris Linko to fix the street KMB Mtg. Minutes 27 February 2024 Page 7 KMB Meeting Minutes 27 February, 2024 map functionality. The program is not using state of the art tech, but the adjustments made will help to identify streets on the map that are already assigned and those that are available for adoption. Danielle continues to work with the IT department to set the functionality up correctly for the spring cleanup and FFN in July._ She is waiting for the list of volunteers who signed up to take care of adopted streets before reaching out to determinethose' who are still active in the program. This is one way to ensure the accuracy of on-line street' map updates. Reusable Bae Proeram KMB was selected for the month of February as the Shaw's Reusable Bag Program beneficiary. Kelly Kemp will continue to post these announcements in social media. Additional Proiects/ Initiatives Adopt -a -Highway No activities planned. Suggestion was made at a previous meeting to provide corporate volunteer organizations with a KMB' watering can. Pat Colbert indicated that Karen Reardon who designed the seal for the Flower Barrel Program cans could design a seal for the corporate sponsors who participate in this program. We Noticed Four nominations to receive the award were made at FFN in July 2023 and on the KMB website: Chase Bank, The Country Store, Jimmy's Pub and Canaan Fuel.
