Minutes 16 January 2024 Page Fundraising 1. Fundraising 2024 Intr Jeff Ward opened the fundraising discussion with a proposal to discuss the undertaking of the town mural restoration project. The KMB Committee needed to decide whether or not it wanted to pursue the mural restoration as a KMB project and concentrate 2024 fundraising efforts to fund the project. 2. Mural Restoration Proiect Discussion Kristy Brooks provided the committee with a recap of the activities taken to date for the restoration of the town mural. The committee members discussed muralist Ian Gaudreau's initial invoice containing a breakdown of restoration work options and costs. Kristy explained the invoice's level of tiers, timing, etc.(See attached invoice document.) The committee discussed the possibility of obtaining a quote from Providence Painted Signs as a point of comparative reference. There is a requirement to have a legal contract with Ian Gaudreau if he is the muralist selected to perform the restoration work that will set specific parameters for the restoration completion. The need for a formal contract is due to past issues that occurred during the original painting of the mural in 2013. The committee also discussed the need for insurance, bond, etc. Target date for the restoration completion is to coincide with " Y2025 and the Town of Mansfield's 250th celebration. Pat Colbert made the motion for the committee to undertake the town mural restoration project. The vote' passed unanimously by all committee members' in attendance.' Possible project/program name for the new initiative: RestorationlPreservation Town Mural Program/Project. Mike Healy mentioned the Non Gift Fund as a possible financial funding source for the restoration of the mural. He also mentioned that he would be in favor of placing a dedication plaque near the mural to acknowledge the work effort on the original mural by Nancy Wall, former KMB Chair.. The committee also discussed setting, aside funding for the mural upkeep going forward to avoid waiting another 10 years for mural cleaning or minor repairs. There was also an idea put forth to ask for more funding, from the Town of Mansfield to fund mural upkeep maintenance (currently KMB receives $2000.00 annually from the town to help fund KMB projects). Key people from the town that need to be involved with the, mural restoration project include: Josh Reinke (DPW), Mike Ahern (Operations), Chris McDermott (Economic Development) and Kevin Dumas (Town Manager). When Jeff Ward met previously with Mr. Dumas, Kevin indicated that he fully supports the efforts for the mural restoration. It was mentioned in committee that a letter signed by Kevin supporting the mural project would go a long way when sending out grant applications and the KMB fundraising'' letter. The annual KMB fundraising letter will be delayed so we can draft a letter with focus on the mural restoration as the main 2024 fundraising event. Pat Colbert asked that Allegra print the letters and address the envelopes. Ana Newell obtained a list of town businesses from the Assessor's office in an effort to improve the list used for fundraising last year. She will cross reference the list with businesses listed in Mansfield and the Tri-Town Chamber of Commerce: - 3. Grant Program Opportunities Janice Wivagg researched both the Starbucks and Enterprise Rent a Car grant programs. She noted that KMB does not qualify for either of these grant programs. KMB Mtg. Karen Reardon designed the banner and has not submitted an invoice. Bay State Envelope is producing banner. Costs were covered by a grant from the Non Profit Gift Fund. Mike Healy would like to conduct an item inventory at the next meeting to learn what's needed for the cleanup events. Trash Can Be Beautiful Program - Painted Barrels Kelly Kemp drafted a letter to send to Kevin Dumas (Town Manager) and Josh Reinke (DPW) with information fora potential KMB barrel painting event. The KMB committee members discussed event particulars including an item specifying that families and friends in groups of 4-6 will paint a barrel during the event. All children participating in the event will need to be supervised by an adult (at least 21 years -old). The letter also indicated and requested a number of barrels that would be required from DPW to hold the event. KMB currently has no barrels. Mike Healy mentioned KMB can purchase barrels if needed. Flower Barrel Program Nothing new to report on this program with the exception of the mention of the one downtown business that did not pay for their flower barrels in 2023(Trattoria Della Nona - $120.00) Jeff Ward sent an email to Yvonne, the restaurant owner, requesting payment. That email correspondence was sent after Pat Colbert called, sent email and visited the restaurant trying to collect the funds. Jeff also relayed the story about the rude behavior of the owner towards Jeff and Neil Rhein while they were customers at the restaurant. All the while, the KMB Flower Barrel Program participant's watering can is on full display at the restaurant... Adont-a-Street At a prior meeting, the committee revisited the need to fix an issue with the program's link on the town's website which was not working properly. Danielle Dupre worked with Chris Linko to fix 'the street map functionality. The program is not using state of the art tech, but the adjustments made will help to identify streets on the map that are already assigned and those that are available for adoption. Danielle continues to work with the IT department to set the functionality up correctly. She is waiting for the list of volunteers who signed up to take care of adopted streets before reaching out to determine those who are still active in the program. This is one way to ensure the accuracy of on-line street map updates. Mike Healy mentioned the possibility to allow companies to sign up to adopt some streets since we already have companies participating in the clean ups with the Litter Busters. Reusable Bap ProLyram KMB was selected for the month of February as the Shaws Reusable Bag Program beneficiary. Kelly Kemp will continue to post these announcements in social media.
