following a motion by Dick and a second by Joan.
Treasurer's Report:
In Pat's absence, Jo reported no unusual activity. The report was accepted by a
unanimous vote following a motion by Neal and a second by Paula.
Director's report:
Josephine presented a review of programs, both new and already established. Here are
just a few:
-It was reported that the Game Show program was highly successful and will be
repeated.
-We will have a hot dog lunch one day a month, following its success in the past.
-Paula Devine will continue to offer her popular craft sessions.
-The Sound Bath program was not so popular.
-Elliott Physical Therapy will be presenting a balance and fall prevention program
Please see attachment for a complete list of new programming.
Josephine reported that the freezer in the kitchen stopped working and was replaced.
Old Business:
Family Fun Night in July was a resounding success, especially with the inclusion of the
Drums Alive group.
Neal reported on the Memorial for Veteran Lewis Williams at Memorial Park. A
donation was received from a Select Board member. The president of the Elks, Sean
De Bold, would like to be involved in the veterans' memorials project. The DPW has
done a good job with upkeep of the memorials.
Mary reported that she is in touch with the DPW about the signs we hope to have
directing people to the COA. Unfortunately the signs that were made and put up are
too small and illegible when driving by. Mary will be in contact with Josh Reinke, DPW
Director, who will remedy the situation. The Town Manager wants all signs in the town
to be of the same design, so we cannot have our "own" sign.
The board discussed the possibility of the COA owning its own van or bus. Jo will
contact Senator Feeney's office to see if there is any state help for communities
seeking to do this.
New Business:
The meeting of the Select Board that we (COA members) attended went very well. The
town was presented with the Dementia Friendly Community commendation certificate
and the new COA building plans were reviewed. The plans are 50% complete and
work will continue. The attendees in COA t-shirts were warmly welcomed and all
comments from the town regarding the building were positive.
Neal reported that the two art projects in conjunction with the schools are in the
planning stages. He hopes to get started on the outside garage wall mural fairly early
in the year so that students will have time to enjoy it. The inside murals will be on
removable materials, so that they can be changed from time to time.
Adjournment:
A motion to adjourn was made by Paula and seconded by Dick at 4:45 pm. Next
meeting will be on September 19, 2023 at 3:30 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Mary Hourigan, Secretary
