Approval of Minutes: Facilities subcommittee minutes approved from March 3, 2023 (2-0)
Update on current Facilities Projects including April Vacation
• Very productive April break. Focused on bathrooms (power washing/scrubbing) in all schools.
Also updated treads on stairwells QMS and JJ.
• Little Hornets —cleaned the rugs
• Changed out light bulbs
• Prep for Roland Green chairlift — lift is in production and are planning an install date.
• Weed treatment of the fields.
• Did the regularly -scheduled water testing before the April break. A and QMS. Overall, pleased
with results. Nothing requiring immediate action. All data/findings are kept on a website
through the state.
Update on MSBA Projects
• Met with the OPM and architects for the QMS boiler project. Have an initial schematic design.
Made comments on this. There are a few questions. Boiler is in the middle of the building, so
there are some extra logistical challenges, but they are working it out. Once the design is
approved then will start getting some cost estimates.
• MHS: Will be able to start the project on May 17. (This date is because we technically need to
provide heat through May 15). The plan is to not make any big noise in the beginning so as not
to disrupt to the school. They are coordinating with school administration on the scheduling.
Should be completed by August (Heat officially needs to be provided by Oct 15).
Staffing
• Had to rescind an offer to someone who did not show up for work.
• Hired a new custodian who is new to custodial work. Started on Monday.
• There has been a lot of vandalism this year, and they are working with school administration to
try to find ways to combat it. This is particularly an issue in restrooms, including soap dispensers,
and drains, which has been a big burden for custodial staff. Have discussed some solutions with
administration. School committee members noted that it might be helpful to publicize more in
newsletters or other ways.
Other- Any items not anticipated by the Chairperson 48 Hours prior to this meeting
Approved 09-14-23
• Legacy walkway planning is happening. Matt is supportive of putting this walkway. Facilities
could help coordinate with the materials and planning.
• At CIP — pending projects: playground project, oil tank removal., goal will be the project will be
out to bid in the winter. Gym floor is at the end of its life — it is a complex project. Town
architect is looking at that. We will need to do a more formal study for this. Track and field are
both at the end of their life span.
Upcoming Agenda Items / Next Meeting Date: TBD pending reorganization
